Around a year ago, luxury accessory label Oliver Cabell rebranded and began exclusively selling luxury footwear with the goal of dropping limited releases each week or so. The independent brand has stayed true to its word, and January 22 marks its first footwear release for 2019 – the GAT in a snow colourway.
GAT in Snow white has already proven a hit. Oliver Cabell says there are around 500 people on the waiting list for this one. Hopefully, there’s still a pair or two left by the time you get around to placing an order.
GAT is a retro-inspired German army trainer crafted with luxury materials and processes. The German army trainer has an interesting history that begins with Jesse Owen’s 1936 Olympic’s campaign and works up to the formation of brands adidas and Puma, both producing footwear for the German army during the 1970s. The result is this iconic silhouette suitable for almost everything but the military.
Oliver Cabell’s GAT features an upper and counters made from 3oz calfskin leather and suede sourced from Veneto, Italy. The outsole is Italian 70 Shore A rubber. The footbed is Italian calf-skin over a removable moulded insole. The laces are even Italian waxed cotton. The lining is Spanish cowhide leather, and GAT is hand-stitched and lasted in Albacete, Spain.
Even with the premium Italian materials, Oliver Cabell has managed to keep the price down, offering the GAT is Snow white colourway for the reasonable price of $188 USD per pair.
