JJJJound and New Balance Employ GORE-TEX On Their Latest Collaboration

Design studio JJJJound and footwear legends New Balance have been steadily collaborating for the past five years with a slew of iconic silhouettes to show for it. Their latest release finds the brands employing GORE-TEX for the first time on a collaborative effort, thereby dialling up a shared ethos of form and function. Set to drop on 15 February for USD$190, the new 2002R sneakers combine minimalist style and durable construction to elevate performance across a host of terrains.

The latest partnership between JJJJound and New Balance represents the second time that they’ve collectively tackled the mighty 2002R sneaker. Whereas the previous iteration featured classic New Balance suede-and-mesh construction along with the JJJJound branding, this newer edition improves upon technical performance to meet winter weather demands. Suede and mesh uppers are still part of the package but the kicks are now lined in GORE-TEX, a material well-known for its technical properties.

As a result of their GORE-TEX membranes, the new 2002Rs offer upgraded waterproof protection as you take to the world outside your door. The sneakers were designed with winter in mind but should remain both comfortable and breathable across all seasons and environments. Style-wise, their silhouettes are brilliantly unfettered, with a minimalist black-and-grey colourway that drives home the functional underpinnings. Providing an extra touch of distinction are bungee laces and a subtle branded tag on the lateral collar.

Rugged by design, the new 2002Rs turn desaturated colour and material interplay into its own kind of statement. The suede and mesh uppers impart signature New Balance construction whilst the GORE-TEX lining takes performance up a considerable notch, all of it rounded out by the minimalist palette. These kicks come to us on the heels of previous stunners but with an added focus on outdoor usability.
