Offering “the freedom to explore the world your way, at your pace,” Breitling CEO Georges Kern points out the Breitling Top Time isn’t just for those that prefer the feeling of two wheels over four. Delivering a versatile timepiece that is certain to fit any aesthetic, the Top Time follows the Deus Ex Machina mantra of nostalgic recollection.

“The Deus philosophy recalls an era before the various pursuits of fun – motorcycling, surfing, skateboarding, whatever – were marketed into fundamentalist factions. All are welcomed under the Deus roof,” says founder Dare Jennings. Inviting Breitling to construct an entirely new timepiece “that expresses their no-limits approach to life,” the co-designed Top Time Deus ex Machina Limited Edition timepiece takes something from both brands to create a synergistic masterpiece.

Adding to its already extensive range of “ultra-modern” chronographs, the Breitling Top Time brings out the retro vibes for an enduring appeal. Boasting a racing-themed calfskin leather strap, the Top Time features a silver dial display with yellow and orange details, squircle-shaped chronograph counters, and the Deus logo and its adage “In Benzin Veritas,” which is offset in white on its black tachymeter scale.

Underneath the 41-millimetre stainless-steel case is the iconic Deus artwork. Designed by Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell, it echoes the nostalgic feel with a retro-looking motorcyclist in full flight. Powered by the Breitling Caliber 23, a COSC- certified chronometer with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours, it as dependable as any other chronograph on the market.

Limited to just 1,500 pieces, its most eyecatching detail and perhaps the quirkiest is its chronograph hand in the shape of a lightning bolt. The Breitling Top Time Deus ex Machina Limited Edition Chronograph is available now and priced at AUD$6,950.
