CODE41 Reinvents an Iconic Range with the New ANOMALY EVOLUTION
In Partnership with CODE41
Swiss-based watchmaker CODE41 was an anomaly right out of the gate, hence the name of their most iconic collection. Launched in 2016, the brand immediately distinguished themselves by way of a totally transparent business model, bringing customers behind the scenes (and even asking for their input) during every stage of the production process. This bold approach turned their debut range—aka the ANOMALY Collection—into a resounding success. Not only did the first two models raise over 500K CHF on Kickstarter and pave the way for follow-ups, but they offered a new paradigm for the Swiss watchmaking landscape at large. With the new ANOMALY EVOLUTION, CODE41’s inspiring story continues.
Speaking of inspirational stories, the latest ANOMALY collection comes as the result of a truly arduous journey. The recent pandemic uprooted the watchmaking industry in no shortage of ways, yielding the largest disruption since the quartz crisis from decades ago. Due to sanctions imposed by COMCO (the Swiss Competition Commission), it became nearly impossible for brands like CODE41 to acquire ETA movements. At the same time, the Japanese manufacturer of Miyota movements stopped accepting orders altogether. Both of these movements were used in the popular ANOMALY range, which was now poised to go extinct.
But from the setbacks there came an opportunity in the form of an entirely new edition: ANOMALY EVOLUTION. Retaining the signature DNA of its popular predecessors, CODE41’s latest combines the best elements of the range’s first two models. Specifically, it offers the distinctive design hallmarks and technical prowess of the ANOMALY-01 along with the Swiss-made movement and date function of the ANOMALY-02. But why stop there? CODE41 asked themselves. That led to a number of additional improvements, such as increased water resistance to 100m, Swiss-based assembly, a sharper display with indices in Luminova, a thinner case design, a stronger crown, and a transparent case-back.
With their access cut off to both Swiss ETA and Japanese Miyota movements, CODE41 once again used limitation to their advantage. That is, the ANOMALY EVOLUTION runs on a Swiss Sellita SW200-1 movement, which delivers a greater power reserve and greater precision than the standard ETA 2824-2 and MIYOTA 82S7. Other notable features of the watch itself include a sturdy case of high-quality 316L stainless steel, crystal sapphire with anti-reflective treatment on the front and back, interchangeable straps (with tool-free assembly), stop-second function, and an unmistakable dial display. Leaving no customer behind, the piece comes available in two sizes of either 41.5mm or 38mm.
Total transparency lies at the heart of CODE41’s operation and so too does community participation. Customers aren’t just taken behind the scenes every step of the way, but also encouraged to provide feedback and even vote on certain features. By staying true to these core values, the brand has been able to keep the bar exceptionally high on design and performance while simultaneously offering direct distribution and minimal mark-ups. Even in the midst of ongoing industry setbacks, CODE41 continues to deliver blatant quality at an impressively affordable price.
It’s also due to the brand’s unique business model that they rely extra heavily on pre-orders, only bringing a series to production when a minimum number of pieces are sold. This approach allows them to optimise cash flow and safeguard production, thereby eliminating the risk of unsold stock. Whether you admire CODE41’s ethics or simply collect brilliant timepieces (or both), place your pre-order today and help bring their latest masterpiece to life. ANOMALY EVOLUTION also makes for a great gift for the mechanical watch-loving lady in your life. And thus an iconic timepiece doesn’t just live on, it evolves…
ANOMALY EVOLUTION is now available for pre-order. Worldwide shipping is free and each watch is backed by a two-year warranty and 30-day return policy. Get on it.
