Even though he’s now ineligible for the 5-year $345 million “supermax” contract extension this summer after being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Doncic is still one of the highest-paid players in the NBA, and he’s not afraid to wear his net worth on his wrist. With his $43 million annual salary and multiple endorsement deals, including Nike, Beats by Dre, and Panini, he’s not holding back with his choice of wristwear after making his first media appearance since being traded to the 17-time NBA Champions.
Doncic chose an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked 15407BA with 18-carat yellow gold case and bracelet for the occasion, and it’s a fitting choice for the purple and gold. Still, unless he’s able to get his hands on a $2.5 million Tiffany Patek Philippe, he’s always going to be outdone by his billionaire teammate Lebron James. Here’s a closer look at Luka’s Lakers press conference watch!

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked ref. 15407BA.OO.1220BA.01 is a beautiful piece made from solid 18-carat gold with an open-worked glare-proofed sapphire crystal and caseback that lets you see the watch’s inner workings.
With a blackened inner bezel, the yellow gold applied hour-markers and luminescent Royal Oak hands are perfectly visible. It’s far from subtle, but it did slide neatly under the cuff of the light-grey sweater Doncic was wearing for the press conference. We’re still looking for an ID on the sweater, but let’s assume that it’s a Loro Piana or Brunello Cucinelli cashmere piece for now. Luka has always embodied the “quiet luxury” style.
As for the AP, it’s a rare, sought-after, and highly desirable model, and the retail price of 88 000 CHF (AUD$155,500, USD$100,000) hardly tells the full story. Watches of this calibre are only offered to the brand’s top clients, which likely include Luka Doncic, and plebians like us would have to fork out approximately AUD$350,000 on the secondary market to get our hands on the highly-limited watch.
Until you build up your relationship with your AP AD, you can marvel at the watch on the brand’s website linked below.
