Swiss watchmaker Breitling remembers the golden era of aviation all too fondly, when airlines like Pan Am ruled the skies. It was during this era that the brand released its big and wildly popular Navitimer watch, which became a favourite among pilots. Hoping to both commemorate the past and bring some of that same magic into the present, Breitling recently launched the Navitimer 1 Airline Editions capsule collection. On the heels of a Swissair model comes the new Navitimer Pan Am Edition, paying obvious tribute to the legendary airline of yore.
Measuring in at an impressive 43mm, the Navitimer Pan Am Edition’s round case is constructed of polished stainless steel. Handsomely displayed across the red and blue dial are three subdials, a chronograph function, a date window, and hands for the hours, minutes, and seconds. That’s all bordered by a bidirectional rotating bezel fitted with a circular slide rule, which performs a full spectrum of aviation-based calculations. Powering the watch is Manufacture Caliber 01, the acclaimed in-house mechanical chronograph movement. It delivers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
Flip the watch over and you’ll find the Pan Am logo located dead center on the transparent caseback. Put it all together and throw in a stainless steel bracelet and you’re looking at a classic Breitling watch that pays tribute to a classic era of aviation. Find it in limited supply starting April 2019.
