In the 1950s and 1960s, more and more folks around the world took to the friendly skies, resulting in what’s now known as the golden era of aviation. Along for the ride was Swiss watchmaker Breitling, whose Navitimer model was massively popular among pilots. Now the brand is commemorating that classic era with the Navitimer 1 Airline Editions capsule collection. The first two models paid tribute to Swissair and Pan Am, respectively, and now Breitling has introduced a Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph TWA Edition.
Similar to the other models, this one comes in big and powerful. Located within the robust 43mm case is world-renowned Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01, which is known for its 70-hour power reserve and painstaking accuracy. As one might expect, the silver dial emanates with functionality and hosts three anthracite subdials. Also featured is a bidirectional rotating bezel with a circular slide rule, allowing for a full range of airborne navigation calculations. Flip the watch to find the TWA logo hovering before a transparent window. Sealing the deal is either a brown leather strap or a stainless steel mesh bracelet.
Based in the United States, Trans World Airlines (better known as TWA) reigned from 1930 all the way up to 2001. The airline remains synonymous with a different era, in which generous legroom and occasional cigarette smoke were more or less a given. And while we can never go back to those times, we can still honour them as Breitling does here with its new capsule collection. It will be available in limited supply starting April of this year.
