Last week Archie Rose Distilling Co. launched what was the first rum to be produced in Sydney for decades. It was also an extremely limited batch, with less than 90 bottles available. It sold out within minutes.
Virgin Cane Rhum was released under the Archie Rose Concepts label, reserved for the rare and experimental releases. Don’t feel bad. The rum went on sale mid-afternoon when you were probably busy at work. We missed out too.
Inspired by Australia’s distilling heritage, Virgin Cane Rhum was distilled in 2016 from freshly cut and pressed sugar cane from Condong, northern NSW. It was released at the cask strength of 56.8%, expressing notes of chervil, olives, marshmallow and fresh earth.
Let’s hope Archie Rose has several more bottles tucked away to release in the not too distant future. Or you could always try browsing the socials and befriending one of the 90 people who snapped up a bottle. Remember folks; flattery will get you everywhere.
For those lucky few who scored Archie Rose Virgin Cane Rhum, here’s a drink recipe:
• 30 ml Virgin Cane Rhum
• 40 ml pineapple juice
• 20 ml lime juice
• 10 ml sugar syrup
• garnish with a wedge of pineapple, pineapple frond and mint leaf
Combine all ingredients in a shaker, add ice, shake and strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass.
Garnish and enjoy.
