The Expresiones del Corazón 2023 Collection arrives on the heels of previous editions from the same two partners. On one side is Casa San Matías, Mexico’s fourth-oldest tequila distillery and the maker of Corazón tequila. On the other side is Buffalo Trace, the world’s most award-winning distillery and the name behind all kinds of beloved whiskies, including George T. Stagg and William Larue Weller.
From this wealth of expertise and resources comes a line of six premium tequilas, five of which are aged in ex-Buffalo Trace barrels. And not just any barrels, but ones that held coveted expressions such as Sazerac 18-Year-Old Rye and William Larue Weller (two fixtures of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection). The collection also introduces two brand new añejos, respectively aged in French Oak and ex-Weller 12-year-old Bourbon barrels.
We sampled the newest drinking additions and can attest to their superlative qualities and distinct characteristics. Each one doesn’t rewrite the book on tequila as much as it does add extra layers of flavour, nuance, and dimension. With the Corazón Weller 12 Añejo Tequila, we picked up notes of strawberry and vanilla on the nose and palate, joined by citrus peel, oak, and black pepper spice as the taste unfolded. The French Oak Añejo Tequila, meanwhile, was a smooth sipper that delivered classic notes of lime peel, fruit, cooked agave, black pepper, and oak spice within a creamy mouthfeel.

- Corazón Weller 12 Añejo Tequila – Matured for 26 months in ex-Weller 12 Kentucky Straight Bourbon barrels.
- Corazón French Oak Añejo Tequila – Aged for at least 13 months in French oak barrels that formerly held Old Charter Oak French Oak bourbon.
- Corazón Sazerac Rye 18 Añejo Tequila – Aged for 24 months in barrels that formerly held Sazerac Rye 18-year.
- Corazón George T. Stagg Añejo Tequila – Matured for 22 months in barrels that previously held George T. Stagg bourbon.
- Corazón William Larue Weller Añejo Tequila – Aged for 15 months in barrels that formerly held William Larue Weller wheated bourbon.
- Corazón Artisanal Small Batch Blanco Tequila – The premium tequila blanco that serves as a base for the remainder of the range.
