The canned cocktail craze is in full swing and Cutwater is helping to lead the charge. On the heels of 17 delicious varieties, the San Diego-based distillery and producer has just released a new Tequila Soda. It blends Cutwater’s own tequila with house-made soda and a splash of lime to deliver crisp taste, zero sugar, no carbs, 130 calories per serving, and an ABV of 7%. We’d call it the perfect summer sipper but let’s be honest, there’s no wrong time or season for tasty tequila soda!
At the heart of Tequila Soda is Cutwater’s own Rayador Tequila, which is also sold separately as either a Blanco or Reposado. Smooth and balanced, both tequilas come by way of a partnership with a family-owned distillery in Jalisco, Mexico.
Going into further detail, Cutwater master distiller and co-founder Yuseff Cherney explained, “The family has been making tequila in the region for nearly 100 years, and they’ve embraced us as if we were part of their own; allowing our team to oversee and customise every step of the process. They hand-select the finest agave, reestablished oven cooking at the facility, built a custom-designed proprietary still used solely to make our tequilas, and use our whiskey barrels from San Diego for aging.”
Unsurprisingly, this isn’t the first time that Cutwater has put tequila in a can. Before Tequila Soda, there were Lime Margarita and Paloma, both of which continue to be hot sellers. Tequila Soda also makes up part of the brand’s ‘Spirits & Soda’ range, a popular line-up that features three varieties of Vodka Soda. From each can of Vodka Soda, expect an ABV of 5%, 99 calories, zero sugar, and zero carbs. Like some of its beloved brethren, Tequila Soda similarly provides a smooth balance of subtle alcohol, crisp carbonation, and zesty citrus flavour.
In addition to its legendary canned cocktails, Cutwater has amassed an impressive spirits portfolio over the last few years. That includes a house-distilled American whiskey, a blended rye whiskey, rum, gin, vodka, and two 100% Blue Agave tequilas. What began as a side project for Yuseff Cherney (of Ballast Point Brewing) is now a full-blown success story, with a slate of awards and a growing fanbase to show for it.
The timing also couldn’t be better, as canned cocktails continue to gain market share. Not only are they lower in sugar and calories than most beverages (alcoholic or otherwise), but their effortless portability makes them perfect for camping trips, getaways, ball games, and more. If you live in the USA and want to see what all the fuss is about, pick up a can of new Tequila Soda and get sipping. Aaaahhhhhhh…
