Things don’t always need to be so complicated. Cold-brewed coffee, for example, can and should be a simple process, and now thanks to Espro’s CB1 Cold Brew coffee maker, it is. The system consists simply of a grinding unit and an amber bottle. Badda-boom, badda-bing—that’s it.
The Espro definitely saves on space by eliminating all the machinery that other systems rely on. Instead, the Espro uses a two-filter system that creates a smoother and more complete brew. The first filter is a compostable paper filter, and the second is a micro-mesh filter. All you do is load your coffee grounds into the stainless steel hopper, add water, and then wait—probably the most difficult part of the whole process—for 12 hours. After the waiting period, just put the apparatus on the growler. The auto-lock valve will release and you’ll soon have up to 1.3 litres of concentrated and caffeinated coffee. Pour over ice, mix with a bit of water, or add some cream and you’re good to go. Because the growler is UV-protected, your brew will stay fresher longer. The simple design was conceived by two engineers—Chris McLean and Bruce Constantine—who knew that there had to be a better, more cost- and space-effective way to make cold coffee. Using their background, and their passion for coffee, they struck on the perfect process for the aspiring barista in all of us.
Never has making a cup of cold brew been so easy, nor has it looked so stylish. You can easily clear your counter space thanks to the Espro, and the on-the-go nature of the growler means you can take your coffee with you wherever you go. The Espro Cold Brew Coffee Kit is available through Espro’s online store and is priced at US$99.95.
