Can you believe it’s November already?! Pretty scary in our opinion, but the restaurant game is really ramping up to bring us home at the end of the year. This week we’re counting down everything that’s French, fizzy and fresh as it gets with everything from new restaurant openings in the heart of Surry Hills to the best darn dumplings at home you’ll ever come across, this is Monday Munchies after all. But first, let’s start with the good stuff, the REAL good stuff.
Let’s get into the food news for the week.
Fresh, Fizzy, Sorted
A tasty drink formulated by food scientists and guided by research? Struth, that’s what we like to hear! Allow us to introduce Sorted, the healthy gut drink made using all-natural ingredients that are scientifically proven to support and encourage your gut microbiome rainforest to grow and flourish with good bacteria.
Packed with fibre, but easy on the tummy, Sorted assists digestion and delivers all the delicious pop and fizz of a soft drink, without regrets! With around 70% of Australians not meeting their daily fibre needs (I think we make that list), Sorted is leading the way with a new nutritional approach that focuses on enhancing fibre-rich prebiotic gut health through a range of simple beverages. Ruddy easy if you ask us.
Available in three delicious and refreshing flavours (Watermelon & Mint, Blood Orange and Blackcurrant. RRP $3.50), we’re more than a little positive you’ll find the one you’re after. Thank us later!
- Totally sugar-free – not even sugar alcohols
- Contains prebiotic fibre for digestive health
- 100% natural
- Low carb, low calorie, gluten-free and vegan
Golden Wok Celebrates a Legend
Having sold 21 million of their delicious morsels over lockdown, Golden Wok is celebrating the chairlady behind the brand with delicious new flavours – Prawn Hargow and Prawn Gyoza.
A key supporter and contributor to Makmur Enterprises, Elly Meriati Tjangdjaja, known lovingly as Grandma, has played a key role in sharing the family history, culture, and food diplomacy through her recipe development and hard work.
Working closely alongside the Golden Wok team, the beloved matriarch has been pivotal in Golden Wok’s success and remains a strong source of inspiration for the brand.
Available now and exclusively at Coles, Grandma Wok’s new dumplings retail for $7.50 (250g) and $18.50 (800g).
There’s plenty of news in restaurant land as well.
I was hoping to add another venue to that list. Toorak Road’s Aegean gem, Vesper Bistro & Bar, is hosting a three-day Grand Reopening, from Friday, November 5th – Sunday, November 7th.
To celebrate their long-awaited return, Vesper will be unveiling their new spring/summer dishes in an 8-course Vesperience tasting menu. The selection has been specially curated to capture the essence of the Mediterranean islands by ex-Vue de Monde and Per Se Head Chef Francesco Castellana.
Vesper essentials remain, such as Brandada de bacalao, oyster mayonnaise & savoury churros and Hiramasa kingfish Crudo with spicy citrus salad, but expect exciting additions like Corsican style slow-cooked veal blade, pancetta, peppers & olives and Burrata, squash & smoked sourdough Panzanella. Bubbles will of course be provided!

Merivale has officially opened the doors to its third venue on the NSW south coast, Quarterdeck – a 20-year-old local institution reincarnated, boasting traditional tiki vibes with a modern twist.
Set on Narooma’s Wagonga Inlet, Quarterdeck champions the produce of the south coast alongside re-imagined cocktails, in one of Australia’s most beautiful settings. Merivale’s Jenn Black and team are delivering friendly and first-rate service in the much-loved local favourite.

The drinks menu is equally as spectacular. Behind the bar, Victor Costa serves a thirst-quenching menu centred around a selection of traditional crowd-pleaser cocktails, delivered theatrically.
