Hot on the heels of last week’s Monza Flyback Chronograph announcement, TAG Heuer is back to further expand its stable of race-ready watches. As crowds start to gather in Madrid for the Spanish Grand Prix on September 13, the Official Timekeeper of Formula 1 has unveiled five new Carrera Chronograph Sport references that offer a streamlined take on this iconic watch.
With prices starting from AUD$9,600, those looking to pick up one of these new references can choose one of four dial treatments across five references: a black opalin dial punctuated with red in classic motorsport style or sunray brushed options in green, silver, or blue (the last of which comes with the choice of a steel bracelet with H-shaped links or a perforated brown calfskin leather strap).
These timepieces mark TAG’s attempt to rethink one of its core chronograph lines in the back half of its “Year of the Chronograph”. Opting not to deploy the glassbox design that has been so present across the Carrera Chronograph releases in recent years and was so well received, these references instead use a more classic racing-watch aesthetic, without losing focus on design, comfort, and a racing-aligned visual identity. Slimmed-Down Case
The key update to these references is the svelte new dimensions of the case redesign, which has been reduced from 44 mm to 42 mm in diameter. This, along with a shorter lug-to-lug measurement of 49.8mm to 48.6mm, should considerably enhance the Carrera Chronograph Sport’s comfort and wearability across a wider range of wrist sizes. Further complementing this is the slimmed-down thickness from 14.17 mm to 15.48 mm.
The bezel has also been reworked. Thinner than previous incarnations, likely by necessity due to the overall reduced dimensions, it pairs a steel cradle with a polished ceramic insert, giving it a welcome lean, aggressive aesthetic. This is echoed by the Carrera Chronograph Sport’s pushers, which are inspired by pistons and high-performance engine components, lending each watch an air of elevated trackside competence.
This is only further emphasised by the presence of a detail that has been present on Carrera novelties since Watches and Wonders 2025: TAG’s signature Victory Wreath engraving, here located on the upper-right lug.
Dramatic Dial
As mentioned, the five-piece collection offers a range of high-impact dials to choose from, each serving a distinct aesthetic despite the foundational watch being the same.
First, the twin blue models with sunray brushed finishes, silver counters, grey minute markings and chronograph hands with Super-LumiNova treatment, as well as blue lacquer on the pushers, and a blue ceramic bezel, all paired with either a steel bracelet or a brown perforated leather strap.
Next, my pick, which is the lovely teal-green take. Like the blue models, it features a sunray brushed dial, silver counters, grey accents, matching green lacquer on the pushers, and the same hue on the ceramic bezel.
This is followed by an undisputed racing classic in the form of the iconic panda configuration, sporting a black counters set against a silver dial, black lacquer on the pushers, grey accents, and, unsurprisingly, a black ceramic bezel.
And finally, we have black opalin reference, which ups the racing DNA even further, thanks to its black counters and contrasting red chronograph details that recall dashboard instrumentation, adding a welcome touch of petrol-infused drama to proceedings.
Movement and Bracelet
Each of the Carrera Chronograph Sport references is powered by the in-house Calibre TH20-00 movement, which has been a reliable engine for TAG Heuer since it made its debut in 2023. It offers an 80-hour power reserve and features the handsome TAG Heuer shield-shaped rotor, which can be viewed through each watch’s display caseback.
Finally, most watches in the collection feature the redesigned H-shaped steel bracelet, which now boasts a taper for heightened comfort and elegance. The bracelet also features an easy link adjustment system, which means you can adjust the size at home, without tools. Plus, if you want something a little more old school, the blue model offers that perforated leather strap, which embraces a classic motorsport look and is paired with a new pin buckle folding clasp.
Price and Availability
The new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Sport references are available now from your local TAG Heuer retailer or the maison’s online boutique. You can expect to pay AUD$9,900 for one of the four models that come with the H-link bracelet or AUD$9,600 for the leather rally strap number.
As for our question of whether these releases are the ultimate racing watch, it all comes down to personal taste. However, when you add these to the brand’s comprehensive chronograph range, it would be fair to say that TAG Heuer is the ultimate racing watch maker.
