As a dad of three kids, food spills, dirty shoes, and knocked-over drinks are a regular occurrence at home – and that’s all just from me. I’ve recently moved into a newly built house and naturally, I immediately sought out the best way to keep our new hard floor looking pristine and immaculate. When it comes to hard floor washer-vacuums, there are several good options on the market from brand names that have been around since the dawn of cleaning-technology time.
Ecovacs Robotics’ stick vacuum brand, Tineco, is a relative newcomer in the market but has positioned itself as being all about cutting-edge innovation and forward-thinking. Its new hard floor cleaner, the Floor One S5 Pro was recently named a CES Innovation Award Honouree in 2022 and after having the opportunity to use one myself for the last few weeks, I can definitely see why. The Tineco Floor One S5 Pro Hard Floor Cleaner vacuums and washes simultaneously to leave your floors clean, dry, and streak-free in a matter of minutes.
Features
When it comes to vacuum cleaners in 2023, features are the name of the game. Long gone are the days when you simply pushed a cleaner around the room and hoped everything was good, nowadays, home appliances are littered with smart technology, lasers and any assortment of futuristic additions. Here’s what I found with the new Floor One S5 Pro.
iLoop Smart Sensor Technology
Leveraging the patented iLoop sensor, Floor One S5 Pro detects, vacuums, and washes for the deepest clean with auto-optimised suction power, water flow, and roller speed. Essentially, it takes the guesswork out of cleaning and automatically detects whether it’s cleaning wet and dry dirt, debris, and other messes. Suction power, roller speed, and water flow automatically adjust to the mess, so more switching settings to adjust cleaning power.
3D Animated Display
Do you know what makes for a more fun cleaning experience? An animated 3D display that helps you monitor your mess. With vivid 3D animation exclusive to the Floor One S5 Pro and an iLoop ring that changes from red to blue when your floor is clean, the full-colour, 2.1-inch LCD display provides real-time cleaning status and guidance, battery and suction levels, and maintenance alerts as you vacuum.
The handy robotic voice will tell you exactly what needs to be done, too. It’ll tell you if the dirty water tank needs to be emptied, if the clean water tank needs a re-fill, or when to run a self-cleaning cycle. And like almost every home appliance nowadays, it comes with an app (although this adds little value to use – showing battery life and cleaning mode, which you can see on the LCD display anyway).
Large Clean and Dirty Water Tank
The Floor One S5 Pro boasts a 30 per cent larger clean water tank than its predecessors, meaning a higher capacity, longer clean at a 35-minute runtime, and 130 square metres of cleaning coverage per charge. The dirty water tanks allow you to clean larger areas without interruption, keeping clean and dirty water separate with fresh water and deodorising solution.
No more pushing around dirty water as you do with a traditional mop and undoing all your hard work. And unlike a manual mop, the S5 doesn’t leave much water behind so drying time is minimal.
Cleaning Modes
The S5 Pro has three modes to customise your cleaning needs. Auto mode for basic cleaning, Max mode for tough messes. and if you just want to vacuum, the Suction mode can vacuum liquids and other wet messes without mopping. One striking feature I noticed from my first use is that the S5 Pro propels itself forward when using it, so you don’t actually have to put much effort into pushing it at all. The brush-head is designed to be able to reach those hard-to-reach corners and crevices, too.
Easy Maintenance
Once you’re done cleaning, the 3-in-1 docking station both stores and charges the unit. While it’s in the dock, it automatically switches to its hands-free self-cleaning system, and cleans the roller brush and dirty water channel at the touch of a button for fast, mess-free maintenance. The self-cleaning brush-roll, means you don’t have to worry about getting tangled up in hair or other debris while you’re cleaning. The dock also has all your little attachments and accessories, so everything is all neatly in one place.
How does the Tineco Floor One S5 Pro work?
Putting my new hard floor to the test all for the name of content, I put the Floor One S5 Pro through the paces and tested how well it cleaned up a variety of spills and mess. Watch the spill test in the video below:
Bottom Line
Overall, the Tineco Floor One S5 Pro is impressive and combines two tedious house chores (vacuuming and mopping) into one – and who doesn’t love a convenient, time-saving option? It can clean almost anything you throw at it – tomato sauce, rice bubbles, dusty footprints, coffee, a literal pile of dirt – and deodorises as it cleans, leaving a streak-free and quick-drying floor. I used it on a hybrid laminate floor, but it promises to work well on pretty much all hard floor surfaces, including hardwood, ceramics, tiles, and vinyl. And while the suction mode can vacuum without mopping, I wouldn’t recommend using it to clean the carpet, so you might need to look into a traditional vacuum option for that.
Set up out of the box was straightforward and overall use was a pleasant experience – especially when the vacuum practically pushes itself forward and is quite direct in communicating what it needs and when. I’m personally always looking for smart home tech that will save time and effort, because who wants to spend precious hours vacuuming, then filling a mop bucket, manually mopping the floor, and then waiting for it to dry? The Tineco FLOOR ONE S5 Pro knocks out two laborious and boring household chores and combines them into one convenient job.
