Apple iPhone 9 Launch Reportedly Coming This Fortnight

Apple product launches are as vital to the cultural phenomenon as the products themselves, but that may be about to change, and fast.  Reports coming out of the US suggest Apple is preparing to drop the iPhone 9 in a virtual launch that will see customer service staff working remotely. According to Jon Prosser, the tech analyst behind FrontPageTech Apple has scheduled a preliminary announcement date of April 15, with shipment expected to kick off the following week.

Rumours started emerging that the Apple iPhone 9 launch was imminent after phone cases from third party manufacturers began appearing in stores around the globe. An Urban Armor Gear iPhone 9 case was obtained by 9to5Mac from Best Buy, with the instructions detailing that “retailers should not inventory the new cases until Sunday, April 5th”. Further speculation mounted when Apple dropped its new iPad Pro and MacBook Air models, suggesting more launches were on the way. According to Prosser’s Twitter account, the tech analyst has been involved in a series of meetings with Apple regarding the iPhone 9 launch. Apple was reportedly tentative when it came to iPhone 9 release, particularly with stores across the world closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prosser’s tweeted that the tech giant may have found a solution, however.

“To help with the launch, over the next two weeks, Apple is shipping iMacs to select retail employees who are being asked to work remotely,” he said in a tweet. “Those employees will be trained in order to offer sales and tech support online for customers.”

The latest Apple iPhone 9 update is encouraging, but it bears reminding that April 1 is a notoriously bad day for news announcements. iPhone fact or fiction?
