Apple Watch Series 10 is thinner, bigger, brighter and lighter

Alongside the iPhone 16, Apple announced its next Apple Watch, the Series 10 (AU$649), which is set to bring a number of improved capabilities to your wrist on 20 September.

Compared to the previous Watch Series, the Series 10 will be thinner, bigger, brighter, and lighter than previous models, with a more rounded design and a wider aspect ratio.

It’ll charge faster, now able to reach 80 per cent battery in 30 minutes, although it also retains the same 18 hour battery-life as previous models.

The Watch will also feature a new and impressive OLED display that’ll give you 30 per cent more real estate compared to the Series 3 to 6, and 9 per cent more than the Series 7 to 9. This should make text-heavy app use, like through messages and mail, a bit easier on the eyes, while also providing better display angles.

If you’re a deep diver, you’ll be happy to know the new Apple Watch can now be submerged to a depth of six metres. For the rest of us, we can enjoy the ability to playback audio through built-in speakers, like music and podcasts (please don’t play music on the bus through your watch, just use headphones like the rest of us), as well as make calls more easily with voice isolation cutting out the background noise.

The Series 10 will be thinner than any Apple Watch before it, though also bigger, coming in 42mm and 46mm sizes. It’ll be available in ‘jet-black’ aluminium, as well as silver, gold and slate titanium finishes.

All Apple Watches will be able to be upgraded to watchOS 11 on 16 September, which will bring a number of improvements, such as a “more intelligent” Smart Stack to help you access information quickly, a Translate app, as well as a redesigned Photos face.

The Apple Watch Series 10 will launch on September 20, alongside the new iPhone 16 series, and will cost AU$649 for the 42mm model, and AU$699 for the 46mm model. The titanium finishes, however, will cost AU$1,199 and AU$1,279 respectively.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 (AU$1,399), however, won’t get any hardware upgrades. It will get a new ‘black titanium’ finish, though, so if that’s what you’ve been holding out for, it’s your Christmas.
