Priced at $349, the Bose Portable Home Speaker is a steal, especially when you consider just how versatile this little speaker is. The speaker has the same design as Bose’s SoundLink Revolve+ from a couple of years ago. That conical design helps to deliver its 360-degree sound, which is the first feature you’ll want to be aware of when considering this speaker. That feature allows you to put the speaker anywhere—in the middle of the room or even in a corner—and the sound will get to everyone. The portable home speaker, however, was designed to give even more punch with a deeper base and more power to blast out your favorite music.
Next on the list of features is its ability to work with either WiFi or Bluetooth. When in range of WiFi, the speaker connects to the cloud to play your favorite songs. When you’re not able to connect to WiFi, then the speaker can connect to your smartphone, tablet, or other devices to work off of your playlist. Since it connects to WiFi, that means that you can use digital assistants like Amazon’s Alexa, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, or Google Assistant to control it. Just say the words and your speaker will play.
And then there’s the portability. Measuring only 7.5 inches tall and 4 inches wide, the speaker has a low profile. It only weighs 2.3 pounds, so it’ light to cart around. It’s also rated with IPX4 water resistance, so it will be safe from some water splashes or a light rain shower (just don’t throw it into the lake while boating). To charge, use the USB-C port, or you can pick up an optional charging cradle for $29.
There are plenty of portable speakers out there, but few with the features that the Bose Portable Home Speaker has. And there is only one that has the Bose name and reputation backing it up.
