The new XPS 13-inch laptop from Dell represents a tough choice—is this laptop for work or for entertainment? Awarded the title of the world’s smallest 13-inch laptop (it only weighs 2.67 pounds), the XPS runs on the new 8th Gen Intel Quad Core processors. Additionally, Dell’s Power Manager delivers maximum power while monitoring and managing system temperatures. Add in the GORE Thermal Insulation, as well as dual fans and heat pipes, there’s no reason to worry about overheating. Finally, the XPS has up to 1 TB of solid state drive storage and up to 16GB of memory. If you’re looking for a workhorse masquerading as a laptop, then look no further than the XPS.
The tough decision comes in when you consider just what you can do with this laptop. The XPS InfinityEdge border is 23 percent thinner—only 4mm wide—creating an 80.7 percent screen-to-body ratio. The XPS also offers an optional 4k Ultra HD resolution with 8 million pixels. Colors are also richer on the XPS thanks to its 100 percent sRGB color and a 1500:1 contrast ratio. Finally, the anti-reflective screen allows you to enjoy entertainment wherever you are, including outdoors. With the release of Dell Cinema, the XPS is capable of CinemaColor, CinemaStream, and CinemaSound. All of this will leave you wondering if you’re supposed to use the XPS to vanish that Excel report, or if you’re supposed to be binge watching Netflix. The answer? Both.
