- Panda dial chronographs dominate luxury and affordable watch markets worldwide.
- Timex enters the trend with the Marlin Jet Quartz Chronograph.
- Features include 40mm case, glass-box crystal, panda dial, stainless-steel bracelet.
- Priced at AUD$570, it’s far more affordable than even a Seiko or Tissot.
- Retro-inspired design blends racing heritage with modern, budget-friendly appeal.
Ever since Paul Newman Rolex Daytona’s started fetching millions at auction, the white dial meets black sub-dial “Panda” has taken over the watch world. Higher-end brands such as Tudor, Breitling, Zenith, and TAG Heuer have all released Panda dial chronographs in the last 24 months, and now that the trend has hit the mainstream and become a near guaranteed way to sell a few watches, affordable watch brands such as Seiko have jumped on board too.
Unlike the Seiko and Tissot offers, which lean a little too far into the realm of function, this Timex Marlin Jet Chronograph is in a trance because of its glass-box-style raised crystal and price point (AUD$570). Both the Seiko and Tissot are priced above AUD$1,000, making them a little too far out of reach for watch enthusiasts who just want a fun piece to scratch the itch.
We know that Timex has been on a tear as of late, and the Timex Automatic 1983 E Line Reissue (AUD$449.95) we picked up recently remains one of our favourite affordable watch releases of the year. Now, the Timex Marlin Jet Chronograph might be the next on the list because of its 40mm case diameter, panda dial, quartz movement, brushed recycled stainless-steel case, and glass-box style crystal. Let’s take a closer look!

If Timex knows how to do one thing, it’s pack an affordable watch with everything watch enthusiasts crave.
This Marlin Jet chronograph is no different, and you’ll find a 40 mm case size, domed hesalite crystal that envelopes the tachometer bezel, date window, two alternating dial colour options (White and Black) and a brushed and polished recycled stainless-steel 6-link bracelet that looks uber expensive and can be adjusted to fit wrists between 150 – 205mm (5.9 – 8.1in).
Maybe the only drawback we can see for watch enthusiasts is the battery-powered quartz chronograph movement. However, we don’t think it should take away from the fact that this is an otherwise beautiful timepiece for a remarkably affordable price point.
Designed in the 1960s, the Marlin has been pulled from Timex archives and reworked for the modern day. If you’re a racing fan, panda dial fan, or watch enthusiast looking to scratch an itch, you can shop the Timex Marlin Jet at the Timex website below, priced at AUD$570.
