Welcome to the weekend! While parts of the world are feeling a bit grim at the moment, that doesn’t mean you have to spend your weekend worrying about it – at least that’s what I’m telling myself. Rather, weekends are for the living, and here we’ve brought together some cool stuff going on this weekend, as well as a fun opportunity for the creative among us to get stuck into.

Without further ado, check out this week’s Feel-Good Friday!

Coachella Comes to Sydney… kind of

SoCal Sydney is throwing a Coachella viewing party this weekend, tying together LA-inspired street food with a livestream of the legendary desert festival. On the 12 and 13 April, the Neutral Bay foodery is welcoming any and all to come along and get some delicious grub while also watching some fantastic artists.

This year, Coachella is boasting a pretty stacked lineup, with the likes of Lady Gaga, Missy Elliott, The Prodigy, Travis Scott, Green Day, Charli XCX, T-Pain, Jimmy Eat World, Post Malone, Kraftwerk, and Basement Jaxx taking to the stage – among dozens more.

But you don’t have to head to the desert to enjoy it. SoCal is putting on a Korean Barbeque food truck to show off the delicious Kogi short rib taco and quesadilla, as well as a miso katsu dog, and sumo dog. Plus, if you want a bigger meal, SoCal’s signiature Bottomless Fiesta will be running, which is essentially two hours of freely running house wine, selected beers, and a spread of Southern Californian dishes – plus, you can upgrade to bottomless margaritas if you’re feeling particularly spicy.

FUJIFILM Australia have opened up a competition to help three Aussie content creators get their hands on the brand’s cameras to shoot some incredible upcoming events. Namely, the GFX Gigs assignments will see one local photographer given the chance to shoot Romance War Born‘s Australian Fashion Week 2025 runway show, one to shoot Opera Australia’s The Marriage of Figaro, and one landscape photographer the opportunity to climb and shoot Mount Kosciuszko.

And the best part? Winners will get paid about AU$4,000for their time and effort, as well as all accomodation, travel, and meals covered.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of my role at FUJIFILM Australia is watching our creator community thrive. Their creativity and passion for visual storytelling continue to inspire us, and we’re always seeking new and innovative ways to further support their craft,” said FujiFilm Australia’s Shaun Mah.

“We’re thrilled to launch the GFX Gigs series and offer these incredible experiences to our community.”

Motherland African Festival Returns to Sydney this Weekend

This weekend, the Motherland African Festival brings delicious food, vivacious music, African drumming workshops and performances, and a range of artisan markets to Sydney.

Specifically, the Festival kicks off on Friday April 11, at Macquire Mall, Liverpool, and will run until Sunday April 13.

Over the three days, the Festival will host an Afro Beats Lounge, a ‘Jollof Rice’ Cook Off (that’s a famous rice dish commonly served in African homes, btw), as well as a main stage featuring live bands, dynamic DJs, and cultural dances.

If you’re looking for something different to do this weekend, want to try some delicious African cuisine, or get your boogie on – get down to Liverpool this weekend – it’s free!
