You can become just about anyone when you play video games, but that level of customisation hasn’t always extended to the platform that you’re playing on. To customise your console or other gear, you’re left with stickers and other do it yourself options, or you can pay high prices to have someone else do it for you but you risk voiding warranties doing so. There just haven’t been any options available to make things your own. Nintendo is launching a new service that lets you customise your Switch video game console directly through the company so that you can have the Switch that is purely you.
More than just a fancy new case, Nintendo’s Switch Customisation Program is a new option to gaming fans. Using this option, gamers can customise their handset before purchasing it. You can choose between 10 different Joy-Con controller and strap colour options. Additional options for purchase include memory upgrades (SD cards from 32GB to 512GB), carrying cases, personalisation add-ons, additional gear (like the Pro controllers), and games. The colours come in solid slate grey, black, or red, or you can mix up offset colour combinations, such as yellow or purple. You can also change up the colours between the left and right controller, and get a third colour for the strap.
You’ll have to work off of Nintendo’s Japanese web site to get the customised Switch, though, so find a Japanese speaker to help, or you can try out Google translate and see what it says. Plan on spending at least $300 to build your custom Switch from the ground up. Be aware that this isn’t the Switch with the longer battery life, though. All that aside, it’s finally time that you can express your individuality on and off screen, and that feels somehow liberating. Besides, it’s cool that you’ll be able to stand out from the growing crowd of gamers.
