Man of Many’s Staff Favourites – 14 April 2023

If you like stuff (and let’s be real, who doesn’t?), you’ve come to the right place. But hold onto your $2.2 million sneakers, because this Staff Favourites is a bit of a curveball. Instead of a product, our co-founders have decided to switch things up and share some top-notch content instead. Always keeping us on our toes, boys!  Anyway, let’s dive into the wonderful world of internet goodies, shall we?

Man Gets Stuck in a Tree Well Snowboarding

Scott Purcell – Co-Founder

This week’s staff favourite is a little left of field compared with the usual products or whisky that I like to feature, but it’s bound to have you on the edge of your seat. I’m a keen skier and love watching skiing videos on YouTube or Instagram but I couldn’t keep my eyes off this heart-pounding moment when a backcountry skier happen to come across a bloke stuck down a tree well. All that was visible was his snowboard slightly moving above the surface with, Ian Steger, buried upside down. Luckily thanks to the skier, Francis Zuber, and his avalanche training, he quickly got to work digging to rescue Ian. It was pretty surprising to see how chilled the guy was in such a wild situation while he was being dug out. It’s also a good reminder to always be prepared when venturing off-piste and always carry essential gear like an avalanche beacon and shovel. Be safe out there.

Self-proclaimed ‘povvo’ (slang for poor person) and British chemistry teacher Shabaz Ali, uses his Shabaz Ali social media handle to lampoon the outrageous ways in which people flaunt their wealth on social media. From the comfort of his trusty blanket, he posts social videos of people showing off excessive purchases, overindulgent experiences and outrageous obsessions while he lies on a split screen providing a running commentary hilariously mocking the absurdity of what is happening. And what makes Shabaz so funny? He points out that we’re all povvos because none of what we’re seeing is relatable to anyone.

Country Road x Saitex Denim

John Guanzon – Head of Social

The warm days of summer are officially but a distant memory. Sad times. But what’s great about changing temperatures is the call for a seasonal wardrobe update. Of course, a staple in any winter closet is a good, sturdy pair of jeans. I recently picked up a new pair from Country Road’s new denim collection, released just this month. The iconic Australian lifestyle fashion brand has recently partnered up with Saitex denim, a sustainable and industry-leading manufacturer based in Vietnam that is said to be revolutionising the way denim is made. The denim factory focuses on supporting both environmental and social change with its pioneering methods of energy use, water consumption, and waste.

The Saitex denim is washed using a closed-loop system that recycles approximately 98% of the water through an on-site treatment plant. Energy-wise, the facility is powered by 15,000 solar panels on the roof and instead of drying the denim in a tumble dryer, 80% of the drying process is done the good old-fashioned way: air drying outside. And while the fashion industry still has a long way to go when it comes to ethical and sustainable production, it’s great to see such a big Aussie label taking positive steps forward with this new partnership. Oh, and the jeans make for a high-quality, comfortable wear too! Win-win for the environment and my cold-prone legs in winter.

Therabody’s Theragun Mini 2.0

Sam Mangioni – Journalist (Entertainment & Culture)

A few weeks back, I was yapping about my newfound love for running. But as I started logging some serious miles on the pavement, I quickly realised that recovery was just as important as the exercise. Unfortunately, I can’t afford a full-time masseuse to tend to my sore legs, but I’ve found the ultimate substitute: the Theragun Mini 2.0. Don’t let its small size fool you; this little massage gun packs a punch. It’s a game-changer when it comes to decreasing muscle soreness and fatigue. Plus, the second generation is 20% smaller and 30% lighter than its predecessor, making it ultra-portable to keep me moving wherever I go. To make things even better, it’s Bluetooth enabled, so I can access a bunch of wellness routines on the app to figure out how to get the most bang for my buck. Whether you’re a marathon superstar (like me) or just someone looking to release some tension in the rig, I highly recommend picking up one of these babies and experiencing the pleasure for yourself. Trust me, your muscles will thank you.

True Plant Protein

True Plant Protein

Richie Hall – Video Producer

It’s no secret that True Protein is well-loved by us here at Man of Many. For those unfamiliar, True is an 100% Australian-owned, family-run business producing a wide selection of high-quality sports nutrition supplements. I’ve been on the hunt for a tasty and nutritious vegan protein powder and with True’s new Plant Protein, I’ve found it. For those who’ve tried a vegan protein before and thought it was too bland, chalky and hard to digest, I urge you to try this. Made of a tri-blend of yellow pea, fava bean and pumpkin seed proteins and with added probiotics and digestive enzymes for enhanced absorption it’s creamy, smooth, and non-bloating. With 20g+ protein per 30g serve and with no added sugar it’s a winner.

Kings 1000A Lithium Jump Starter

Jack Boulding – Sales Executive

Given I now have quite a hefty commute in both the morning and afternoon to work I decided it was time to invest in a good quality battery pack for my devices as I make my long journeys. The battery pack I landed on isn’t known as being a power bank for your phone but a jump-starter for your car, it is the Kings 1000A Lithium Jump Starter. Without getting into the nitty gritty specs, this battery pack is more than enough to make sure you have charged devices all day long as I get about a week’s worth of charging from one single full charge. Not to mention the convenience of never having to ask other car owners if you can jump-start your flat car battery from their car.

Gracias a dios mezcal 1

Gracias a Dios Mezcal Espadín

Jacob Osborn – Journalist

Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner and I say skip the tequila this year in favour of a classic mezcal like this one from Gracias a Dios. The name translates to “Thank God” and you might be saying something to that effect when you sip it neat or mix it in a cocktail. It’s crafted by way of eco-friendly practices and bottled young (i.e. joven), imparting a grassy nose and a balanced flavour profile of floral, smoky sweetness.

Should you pick up a bottle of this Mezcal Espadín for Cinco de Mayo or any other occasion, your cocktail options are plentiful. Here’s a recipe for a tasty Mezcal Mule to get you started. Enjoy.

  • 2 oz. Gracias a Dios Mezcal Espadín
  • 1 oz. lemon juice
  • ¾ oz. agave syrup ¾ oz.
  • ginger beer

Directions: Top off with ginger beer. Stir and serve ingredients.

Bondi Active Store

Clelia Niyikiza – Branded Content Assistant

Local fitness legends Bondi Active have just launched their first standalone concept store and guess where it’s located? Yep, Bondi Beach. Apart from its genius brick-and-mortar strategy, the brand offers some of my favourite activewear pieces so I decided to pop in for a visit and check out Sydney’s fitness influencers’ new holy land. Situated on Gould Street, its ground floor serves as a retail space, while the top floor features an open space for wellness events and photoshoots. The level of quality in their pieces is one thing, but the brand’s commitment to sustainability is also up there. They use recycled materials in some products and reduce waste through manufacturing processes. to Fit check, anyone?!? If you’re in the area and looking for the hottest activewear outfits that will make heads turn in your next Pilates class, be sure to drop by and have a browse.
