Lorraines $25 Cheese Toastie

Scott Purcell – Co-Founder

Guess what? April 12th is National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, and Lorraine’s Bistro out of Waverly has got you covered with a limited-edition cheese toastie that’ll blow your socks off. Hatted French chef Clement Marchais has created the bougiest toastie you’ve ever tasted, with melted Comte and Gruyere cheeses, tangy creme fraiche, zucchini pickles, and premium avruga caviar, all served on crisp brioche bread and paired with a flute of G.H. Mumm bubbles. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It’s available for one month from April 12th for $25 (inclusive of the bubbles). Don’t forget to take advantage of their Bottomless Mussels menu for $39pp every Wednesday night and Cocktail Happy Hour from 4 pm to 6 pm every Wednesday to Friday.

Atelier Jalaper AJ-P400-B Watch

Jacob Osborn – Journalist

The oft-overlapping worlds of premium sports cars and high-end wristwear find an exceptional common ground at Atelier Jalaper, which incorporates actual vehicle parts into their output. Their latest line goes by the name of AJ-P400 and uses actual Lamborghini Miura aluminium on the signature dial face. Additional features such as a minute track-style bezel, speedometer-inspired hands, and Miura-like colours on the minute ring help round out the piece’s thematic underpinnings.

What I love about this watch is that it favours curated use of detail in favour of loud gestures. As a result, the luxury sports car vibe is effectively imparted but never in your face to the point of feeling like a gimmick. Everything from the Miura’s glass windscreen surfaces to its rear wings to its quality rims helped fuel the design choices, but at the end of the day, this primarily looks like a classic wristwatch of clever contour and distinction.

The AJ-P400 comes available in four iterations and my particular model combines a black dial with white luminescent markers, light blue minute track, power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock, screwdown crown, and polished steel case. Around the back, a Swiss-made Sellita SW270-1 movement with a 45-hour power reserve does its thing through an exhibition window. Driving home the handsome design—pun intended—is a thin strap of supple blact leather. You don’t have to love sports cars to love this watch, though it certainly helps!

Blue Lock

Claudette Sampang – Sales Executive

As a fan of sports animes like ‘Haikyuu’ and ‘Kuruko No Basket’, ‘Blue Lock’ is a fantastic series that takes a different approach to its genre and brings something new to the table. Even if you are not a fan of soccer, you can’t help but get caught up in the characters’ enthusiasm and egotism as they train in a state-of-the-art facility and face off in intense challenges to prove themselves as the best striker in Japan!

Also, if you watched Japan’s matches in the 2022 World Cup, one of the Blue Lock authors, Yusuke Nomura, helped design the team’s jerseys in collaboration with Adidas Japan, which definitely had fans (like me) celebrating.

Hush Puppies Bounce PLUS Range

John Guanzon – Head of Social

You can never go wrong with a nice pair of leather boots especially as temperatures begin to cool on this end of the hemisphere. This week, I’ve picked up a pair of Hush Puppies’ Eastwood boots in black from their new Bounce PLUS collection – a range that’s packed with a bunch of technological features to give you the most comfortable wear possible. Now, I’ll be upfront in saying that I had some initial reservations before settling on a pair of Hush Puppies, since usually I associated the brand with the sturdy leather shoes my dad would wear back in the day. But now as a dad myself, I can 100% see why there were (and still are) the go-to for style and comfort. Their new Bounce PLUS technology boasts five layers of pure genius comfort, with superior leather uppers that are resistant to water and stains. The footbeds are softer than a cloud and are instantly comfortable from the first wear – no need for breaking in! The lightweight midsoles prevent foot fatigue and the micro-suede heel grip gives that added support. My favourite feature of the Eastwood boot, you ask? The quietly genius zipper on the side, which makes it a breeze to put on and take off. There’s nothing worse than spending minutes trying to yank boots off your sore feet after a big night, am I right? Well, these Hush Puppies give you neither of those! A big win for dads and gents, everywhere.

A Taste of Singapore at NEL Restaurant

Elliott Barsby – Commercial Director

If you’re a Singapore foodie fan like me, get down to NEL for the A Taste of Singapore experience. What a dining experience this is! Chef Nelly Robinson has teamed up with the Singapore Tourism Board to showcase his take on Singapore’s eclectic culinary scene. You will see familiar names on the eleven course degustation menu like chilli crab, satay, and laksa, but chef Nelly has applied his distinctive culinary creativity to reimagine these iconic dishes. My pick, the Bubble Tea dessert with mandarin tea, a sweet and fresh take on the popular beverage. Get there quickly, as for the first week only you can experience the Garden City Sling cocktail prepared by visiting mixologists from Singapore bar Hopscotch.
