Chris Hemsworth Fights Enemies and Trauma in the ‘Extraction 2’ Trailer

The debut trailer for Netflix‘s action thriller sequel Extraction 2 confirms that Chris Hemsworth‘s Tyler Rake is not only alive and well but has returned to doing what he does best – kick butts while saving lives. After a near-brush-with-death encounter in the first film, the brutal black-market mercenary is back in the saddle for some more hardcore butchery. Extraction 2 will see Hemsworth’s Rake once again embarking on a deadly assignment to rescue the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from a prison where they are held captive.

The highly anticipated sequel is likely to pick up from where we last saw Rake and the rest of the crew, shedding light on how Tyler was rescued and nursed back to health. The debut trailer expands on the recently revealed still image from the film, giving us an extended look at the long-take prison firefight sequence. The action-packed teaser opens up with Tinatin Dalakishvili’s Ketevan, who’s the target of Rake’s latest extraction, waiting impatiently in some sort of a prison cell when Hemsworth’s Rake commands her to “move.” What follows after is a long shot of the prison fight, where Rake fights through a prison yard, sidestepping Molotov cocktails, tossing grenades, and smacking people with a riot shield. But our mercenary still appears to suffer from PTSD, after barely avoiding death in the first movie.

After receiving a lethal blow to the head, we see Tyler falling down to the ground in a similar fashion as he did in the first movie, with a female voice in the background uttering the sentence, “Tyler, you were clinically dead nine months ago.” The voice-over then adds, “But you fought your way back. You came back for this…Why?” Guess, we’ll soon find out soon enough. Sam Hargrave is back to directing duties for Extraction 2 with Hemsworth and the Russo brothers producing the project via their AGBO production company. Joe Russo has even penned the script for the sequel. The Avengers: Endgame director shared a few tidbits surrounding the upcoming film and even delved into how the sequel would differ from the first entry.

“It’s very different from ‘Extraction 1’, which we like. It’s own movie in that regard,” Joe Russo explained. “It has a different colour schematic. It’s set in a different part of the world. It has a different pace, a different tone than the first one. And that, to us, is an interesting way to approach serializing a story is that it’s more surprising and unexpected, and you’re not going to get the exact same movie that you got the last time.”Alongside the Russo brothers and Hemsworth, Hargrave, Mike Larocca, Angela Otstot, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, as well as Peter Schwerin will be producing the sequel. Benjamin Grayson, Steve Scavelli, Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, and Jake Aust will serve as the executive producers of Extraction 2.

If the high-octane teaser trailer is anything to go by, it seems like giving up is not an option for Hemsworth’s Rake, who looks all but prepared for his next mission. With Extraction 2 hitting Netflix on June 16, the movie is shaping up to be the unexpected sequel we never knew we wanted and will be another action-packed joyride taking us on a whole new adventure.
