Kingsman-3

Everything You Need to Know About Kingsman 3

As soon as the end credits rolled on 2017’s “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” franchise fans were already asking: “Will there be a third Kingsman movie?” First and foremost, there will indeed be a new “Kingsman” in cinemas as early as September of this year. However, one can’t refer to the upcoming instalment as “Kingsman 3” because it’s a prequel and not a sequel. Dubbed “The King’s Man,” it’s an origin story that goes all the way back to WWI.

Because “The King’s Man” isn’t part of the official trilogy, it won’t star Colin Firth or Taron Egerton. However, don’t take that to mean the story of Harry Hart (Firth) and Eggsy (Egerton) won’t come to a close. As it turns out, there will also be an official “Kingsman 3” somewhere down the road. In fact, it’s been reported that director Matthew Vaughn plans to shoot “Kingsman 3” as early as this year, meaning there might be yet another new “Kingsman” in cinemas sooner than later.

Here’s some more (potential) good news for all the “Kingsman” fanatics out there, who helped the previous two films collectively rack up more than US$800 at the worldwide box office. Apparently, Matthew Vaughn is so enamored with this universe that he’ll continue to expand upon it by way of crossover films and spin-offs. That includes a potential movie about Statesman Tequila, who was introduced in the second film and played by Channing Tatum.

In 2018, Vaughn also announced that he was developing an eight-hour “Kingsman” TV series. That same year, he discussed plans to reboot the “Kick-Ass” franchise, which might overlap with the “Kingsman” universe. To think, you just wanted to know if there will be a third “Kingsman” movie. As it turns out, there’s an entire KCU in the works!

What Will The King’s Man Be About?

To reiterate, the upcoming “Kingsman” prequel will go by the (somewhat annoying) name of “The King’s Man” and it will primarily take place during WWI. An origin story of “the very first independent intelligence agency,” its release date has been pushed back at least twice and it’s now slated to arrive in cinemas on 18 September of this year.

While you (reportedly) won’t find stars Colin Firth and Taron Egerton in “The King’s Man,” they’ve been supplanted by a talented cast. Expected to appear are actors Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, Gemma Arterton, Djimon Hounsou, Matthew Goode, Rhys Ifans, Tom Hollander, Charles Dance, Daniel Bruhl, and—intriguingly—Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

As you may or may not recall, Taylor-Johnson made his name in Vaughn’s “Kick-Ass” movies, playing a hapless teen-turned-superhero. According to IMDb, he’ll be playing the role of young Lee Unwin—aka Eggsy’s father—in the upcoming “Kingsman” prequel. What this means for the supposed crossover between “Kick-Ass” and “Kingsman” is anyone’s guess.

What Will Kingsman 3 Be About?

Since before he began shooting “The Golden Circle,” Matthew Vaughn was already planning the next “Kingsman” movie and we’re not talking about this year’s prequel. Currently known as “Kingsman 3″—though surely that will change at some point—it will mark “the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship,” according to Vaughn.

In reference to “Kingsman 3,” Vaughn also once said the following: “The next movie is what happens to these characters. They’re definitely not going to be doing what you’ve seen them do before.”

Here’s another equally vague “Kingsman 3” quote from Mr. Vaughn: “People will either freak out in a good way, or freak out in a bad way, but they will freak out…we’re literally finishing the script off as I speak—but they go on a journey that, if anyone sees it coming, then I’ll give up.”

According to Taron Egerton, “Kingsman 3” and its premise will be “really neat.” He’s previously expressed a desire to see the story of Eggsy and Harry Hart come to a close, saying, “I would like to do one more because frankly, I’d like to say goodbye to him in a befitting way and to finish the trilogy. All good things come to an end. It was always imagined as a trilogy and I think it’d be great to finish the story off because I’ve loved playing the character.”

In regards to the career-launching role itself, he once said the following: “It was the role that kind of started my film career so I’m always going to feel, you know, a great fondness for the part.”

Ultimately, we don’t know much about the plot for “Kingsman 3,” which is pretty much par for the course. After all, it wouldn’t be much of a spy film if it gave everything away beforehand. Meanwhile, it’s been rumoured that key actors from “The Golden Circle” will return, namely Channing Tatum and Jeff Bridges. That’s in addition to the reported movie about Tequila (Tatum), which may or may not happen.

There’s also early speculation as to whether the third “Kingsman” movie will pull more of its content from Mark Millar’s original comic book series. If the previous two instalments are anything to go by, Vaughn will cap off the trilogy by continuing to put his own spin on the material. Here’s hoping he does a slightly better job than he did with “The Golden Circle,” which was entertaining in its own right, but not quite as thrilling and unique as the first “Kingsman,” in our opinion.

Kingsman 3 Release Date

While “The King’s Man” is slated for release on 18 September of this year, the official “Kingsman 3” movie hasn’t started shooting yet. That means we can expect to see it in 2021 at the earliest, and maybe even in 2022.

Kingsman 3 Cast

You never know who will pop up in a “Kingsman” movie and we definitely expect some big name cameos. That’s not to mention the potential crossover with the rebooted “Kick-Ass” franchise. For now, however, we can assume that the following actors will appear:

  • Taron Egerton as Eggsy
  • Colin Firth as Harry Hart
  • Jeff Bridges as Champ
  • Channing Tatum as Tequila
