Just weeks out from the premiere of The Kings Man, the prequel instalment in Matthew Vaughn’s seminal spy series, the director has dropped a bombshell. In an interview with Comicbook, Vaughn revealed the details of the long-awaited Kingsman 3, a continuation of the over-the-top espionage thriller. Turns out, fans will be getting the send-off they’ve been asking for. Kingsman 3 will reportedly mark a fitting farewell to the classic Eggys/Harry Hart storyline that put the gentleman spies on the map.
“We’re all set to go,’ Vaughn said. ‘We start filming in September.” The admission makes good on previous reports that the new film will revisit the relationship that sparked the original. Debuting in 2014, the spy movie put an interesting twist on the genre, revitalising a tired category overrun with cliches. It was a runaway hit upon release and was immediately followed by its Golden Circle sequel in 2017, however, many reviews suggest it failed to capture the magic of the first film. Kingsman 3 is set to fix that.
“I’m really not allowed to say anything, but there is a script,” Egerton revealed in a 2019 interview. “It’s a really neat idea. That plan, at the moment, is that we’d like to do another one, one more time.” The lead actor went on to explain that he’d like to return to the role at least one more time so he could bid farewell to Eggsy ‘in proper fashion’.
The Kingsman 3 announcement comes amid a new release for Vaughn’s much-loved franchise. Prequel film, The King’s Man hits theatres early next month and introduces an entirely new cast of characters. James Bon favourite Ralph Fiennes is joining the mix, alongside Djimon Hounsou, Harris Dickerson, Gemma Arterton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, but given their story’s World War I timing, it’s unlikely they will find their way into Kingsman 3. Nevertheless, another Eggsy/Harry hart film is never a bad thing.
In the meantime, The King’s Man will premiere in Australian theatres on January 6, 2022, 2021. The third Kingsman movie with Eggsy does not yet have a release date.
