The first trailer for Netflix’s The Witcher Season 3 Volume 2 teases an impending and grand confrontation. Henry Cavill’s monster slayer Geralt and Yennefer will unite in their quest to safeguard Ciri while hunting down the mastermind orchestrating chaos among the most influential forces in the Continent. In a significant transition for the series, Season 3 will also mark Cavill’s final portrayal of the iconic Geralt of Rivia, paving the way for Liam Hemsworth to assume the mantle for Season 4 and subsequent instalments.
The latter half of the season will seamlessly weave together the narrative threads that were initially set in motion, as Geralt, Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Jaskier (Joey Batey) go to extraordinary lengths to ensure the safety of Ciri (Freya Allan). The logline for The Witcher Season 3 Volume 2 trailer reads, “Never lost, always found,” and it wastes no time, jumping straight to where we last left our characters. It opens with a shot of the enchanting ring that once floated above the Thanedd ball, now covered in flames and collapsing.
This haunting image is mirrored in the eyes of a character drenched in blood. The scene then cuts to what appears to be the aftermath of the eventful Thanedd Ball. “I’ve searched so long,” Yennefer then begins to say to Ciri as if bidding farewell, “But it was all worth it, no matter where you go, we will never be apart.” Yen’s lines are timed with glimpses of thrilling battles that await in the latter part of Season 3. “We didn’t come this far just to abandon each other,” Geralt tells Ciri and Yennefer.
The trailer delivers several thrilling and intense glimpses of Geralt engaged in combat, effortlessly slaying a horde of foes. Jaskier affirms our hero’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding Ciri, declaring, “The war brewing outside is nothing compared to what Geralt will do to protect his daughter.” We even see our main characters gearing up for the big battle, with the mages unleashing their magic amidst the collapsing ballroom. The trailer ends with Geralt’s sword shattering and his voice ominously saying, “There’s no coming back from this.”
According to Netflix, “While it’s still unclear how the power dynamics will shift — and who will be left standing after the fight — one thing is for certain: The found family of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri, plus their pal Jaskier will stay together at all costs.” As an all-out war becomes increasingly likely, it will be interesting to see the lengths to which Geralt will go in upholding his cherished “neutrality” and his strategies for safeguarding Ciri and Yen, all while striving to keep everyone together.
Netflix’s The Witcher Season 3 Volume 2 will pack in three new episodes and is set to hit the service on July 27.
