Zoe Kravitz Sinks Her Claws Into Bruce Wayne in New ‘Batman’ Trailer

The latest trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman has been revealed, giving fans a closer look at Zoe Kravitz’s charismatically unhinged Selina Kyle/Catwoman. The new teaser, which is entitled ‘The Bat and the Cat’, dives into the tumultuous relationship between the world’s greatest detective and his feline-focused anti-hero companion. But underpinning the decidedly more brutal romantic tale is the looming threat of destruction, spurred on by Paul Dano’s disturbing turn as The Riddler. Three trailers down and the hype train for Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne epic doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon.

As we’ve come to expect from The Batman teasers, the clip keeps most things in the dark. Opening with Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne being accused of not using his wealth and influence to help the city by Jayme Lawson’s mayoral candidate Bella Reál, Wayne’s real work explodes onto screen. Fast cuts of the billionaire vigilante taking out organised crime in his own brutal manner directly contradict Reál’s words, but it matters less to the official, and the juxtaposition is short-lived.

Dano’s mysterious villain slides into picture just long enough to unsettle, before Kravitz’s Selina Kyle makes her triumphant debut. “If we don’t stand up, no one will… The Bat and the Cat, it’s got a nice ring,’ she tells Wayne in the trailer.

While fans may have yearned for a crafty adversary, similar to that which slowly befriends Batman in the comics, it appears this iteration of Catwoman is playing things fairly straight. There are a few punches thrown in for good measure, but the pair seem to be on the same side for the most part. Importantly, in an interview with Buzzfeed, Kravitz revealed the only fighting down was on-screen.

“It was an extremely collaborative process — in all the ways, in terms of the character and how she looked and what she was wearing,” Kravitz said. “Our costume designer came to New York a week after I got the part to meet me and measure me and start the conversation about Catwoman. Matt is an extremely collaborative filmmaker who likes to get to know the person playing the character, so I didn’t have to fight for anything — it was designed that way.”

Produced by Reeves and Planet of the Apes legend Dylan Clark, The Batman is set to land exclusively in theatres on March 3, 2022. Until then, we probably still have a few more trailers up our sleeves.
