The 1990s running sneaker trend is alive and well in the sneaker subculture and brands such as New Balance and ASICS are thriving by looking back in their respective archives. Most recently, ASICS launched the Gel Kayano 14 in collaboration with JJJJound and now it’s New Balance’s turn to steal back some of the limelight with a slick retro 1906R runner in collaboration with South Korean streetwear staple, thisisneverthat.

Reviving another out-of-rotation New Balance model, the 1906R returns here with an aged aesthetic, adding perceived blemishes on the mesh-netted upper and yellowing to the ABZORB and N-ergy cushioning system. The upper of the shoe features an all-over mesh construction with reflective overlays, while the outsole takes advantage of Stability Web for shock absorption.
We appreciate how New Balance has kept the core components of the 1906R true to form as the once-retired model makes its comeback. A shoe that we’re keen to see revived with a number of other collaborative efforts to come, as well as general inline models expected into next year.
Be on the lookout for the thisisneverthat x New Balance 1906R as it releases online at newbalance.com.au this Friday 28th October 2022. Those who aren’t able to secure a pair for themselves online should also check third-party sneaker retailers across the country such as Up There Store, and Above The Clouds.
