Flecha azul

Abraham Ancer and Aron Marquez Launch a Premium Tequila Just in Time for Cinco de Mayo

PGA golfer Abraham Ancer is getting into the luxury tequila game with help from a Mexican entrepreneur and a family-owned distillery. Handcrafted from fully-matured 100% estate-grown Blue Weber Agave, Flecha Azul Tequila is like bromance in a bottle. Specifically, it represents the mutual appreciation for Mexican culture shared by Ancer and business partner Aron Marquez. Available in five expressions, it offers distinctive flavour and arrives just in time for Cinco de Mayo.

Flecha azul anejo

Ancer and Marquez first crossed paths during a golf tournament in Mexico and became instant bros. Sharing a fondness for both Mexican culture and the finer things in life, they found a natural passion in high-end tequila. To nurture that passion, they headed to Jalisco, Mexico, and joined forces with a multi-generational, family-owned-and-operated distillery. Employing practices that date all the way back to 1840, the distillery cooks Agave piñas in traditional masonry ovens known as hornos and doesn’t rely on diffusers.

Flecha Azul is the handcrafted and additive-free result. The words translate to “Blue Arrow” and make direct reference to the Blue Weber Agave that’s used as a source. We tried the Reposado and noted a richer colour than most counterparts. The nose delivers citrus, flower, and a little smoke while the taste pairs traditional notes of agave, black pepper, and lime peel with subtle blasts of bubble gum and oak. Black pepper carries through to a mildly spicy finish, which leaves essentially zero burn in its wake.

Flecha azul cocktail

With Cinco de Mayo upon us, now is the perfect time to make a refreshing cocktail or three. Equipped with a bottle of Flecha Azul Reposado Tequila, Chas Martin and Benji Homsey—owners of The Charles Restaurant in Dallas, TX—created a recipe just for the occasion. Here’s how to make “El Coco Carlos” at home:

  • 2 oz. Flecha Azul Reposado Tequila (From $75.99, varies by market)
  • 1 oz. Coconut Water
  • .75 oz Fresh lime juice
  • .5 oz Agave Syrup
  • Orange Wedge

Directions: Start by muddling an orange wedge in your shaker, then combine the rest of the ingredients into the shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into a salted rocks glass over one giant cube. Garnish with an orange spiral.
