There’s USD$21.5 million worth of prize money on the line at the 2025 U.S. Open golf tournament, the event’s 125th edition overall.
Returning to the Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania (for a record 10th time), this year’s final Grand Slam event will dole out the same purse as last year. The winner’s check is USD$4.3 million, followed by USD$2.322 million for the runner-up, USD$1.445 million for third place, and USD$1.013 million for fourth place. After that, the prize number dips below USD$1 million but remains formidable, with USD$843,765 going to fifth place.
While the 2025 purse doesn’t represent an increase over 2024, it’s still twice the amount that was handed out just four years ago. As for the top contenders, last year’s runner-up Rory McIlroy is coming off a career Grand Slam after winning the Masters in April; he’ll square off against returning champion Bryson DeChambeau. However, it’s top-ranked golfer Scottie Scheffler – winner of the 2025 PGA Championship – who’s emerged as the frontrunner.
Anyone who lands in the top 71 will earn a cash prize, with the 71st place golfer taking home a cool USD$38,678.

Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, took home USD$4.2 million for winning the 2025 Masters.
