Kanye West Drops $79 Million on a Brutalist Beachfront Compound
Donda, but make it beachy. Perennial headline-grabber Kanye West has reportedly dropped a cool USD$57.3 million (AUD$78.9 million) on a new minimalist compound in Malibu. Part beachfront residence, part modernist sculpture, the Tadao Ando-designed house perfectly embodies the duality of Ye.

According to Dirt, West has put down the monster payment in full, with the publication unable to source a mortgage. Considering the music superstar was recently valued at USD$1.8 billion by Forbes, prior to the success of his polarising DONDA release, it makes sense, and Ye is in good company.
Located at 24844 Malibu Rd, Malibu, the nearly-3,000 square foot residence was sold by retired Wall Street financier Richard Sachs, best known as the ex-boyfriend of Ashley Olson. Sachs reportedly spent seven years planning the three-story, four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom concrete monstrosity, which he listed last year for USD$75 million (AUD$103 million) with no takers. By all accounts, it required 1,200 tonnes of poured concrete, 200 tonnes of steel reinforcement and 12 pylons driven 60 feet into the ground to ensure the hulking house didn’t disappear into the sand.

Brutalist design at its most expensive, Kanye West’s new home features three clearly distinct levels. According to the official listing, the bottom floor holds three ensuite guest bedrooms, the middling level houses the public areas — the living room, kitchen and powder room, while the top floor is exclusively reserved for the owner. It cops a penthouse-level bedroom suite and rooftop oceanside terrace overlooking the Malibu waves below.
Best of all, West is set to stay close to his home away from home. While the Chicago native has property in Wyoming, Calabasas and New York City, he also owns a massive Hidden Hills compound with estranged wife Kim Kardashian, just 30 minutes from his latest purchase.
