Audi has pioneered the fast estate genre, and while SUVs have threatened to barge into sales, the RS 6 Performance remains a bonafide icon with a cult-like following. Hence, before electrification inevitably kicks in for the next-gen model, the long-roof gets a limited-edition send-off with a racier Audi RS6 Avant GT limited edition.
Only 660 of these special vehicles will be made, and only 22 individually numbered units will be coming to Australia. The Audi RS 6 Avant GT will be priced at $399,000 before on-road costs, which makes it $157,500 more expensive than the current Audi RS 6 Performance ($241,500). Not that it matters because the RS 6 Avant GT is already allocated and sold out.
“We are excited to bring the RS 6 Avant GT to the Australian market. This exclusive model not only underscores Audi’s commitment to performance and innovation but also celebrates our rich motorsport heritage,” said Jeff Mannering, Director of Audi Australia. “This unique car is a brilliant example of Audi’s continuous pursuit of dynamic driving performance. With its bespoke features and highly limited availability, the RS 6 Avant GT will create a new chapter in the history of Audi in Australia.”

Not much has changed with this model, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, considering the base is the already exceptional Audi RS 6 Performance.
You get the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine that produces 463kW of power and 850Nm of torque, and it sends all of this power to the ground with a Quattro all-wheel-drive system and 8-speed automatic gearbox. That system provides a leech-like grip, helping this family wagon sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds (although those we’ve spoken to have said it could get into the high 2s). Of course, the top-speed is also a supercar bothering 305 km/h.
What has changed is almost everything you see visually. The RS 6 Avant GT nameplate adds a gloss black grille and intake, which nicely contrasts with the white paint job. Elsewhere, you get a redesigned bonnet and carbon fibre front fenders, both of which are made from carbon fibre. Meanwhile, the side skirts get special inserts, and even the exterior mirror covers are in carbon.
At the rear, there’s large “RS 6 GT” lettering in black, a redesigned tailgate, a functional diffuser with a vertically cantered reflector, and a massive double wing inspired by Audi’s motorsport genes. Somewhat controversially, the RS 6 GT lets go of the roof rails and surrenders some practicality for its swoopy silhouette.
There’s the striking livery and those distinctive 22-inch white carbon-fibre wheels, a sepia-tinted throwback to Audi’s legendary 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car from 1989. Direct inspiration also comes from the project RS 6 GTO concept from 2020, when twelve apprentices worked on the project for six months with the support of Audi Design.
If this paint shade and livery seem too shouty for you, more subtle hues of black and grey are also available, and you can customise the decals in terms of colour as well.
This is a fitting last hurrah for the current RS 6 Avant since it injects even more visual muscle into an already-loved design. With its potential collector car status, the 22 examples coming to Australia have already been sold.
