Probably the biggest and currently the only MCU movie of 2024, Deadpool 3, has finally and officially wrapped filming, as confirmed by the star, Ryan Reynolds, in a touching, borderline heartfelt social media post. Reynolds took to X to extend his appreciation to the film’s cast, crew, and director Shawn Levy, reserving a playful jab for co-star Hugh Jackman. True to Deadpool form, the post also featured a crotch-focused photo of the red-suited merc.
“The suit hides the blood. Also sweat… But today, with ‘Deadpool’ wrapping, it’s mostly tears. A giant and forever thanks to the cast and crew of our film who battled wind, rain, strikes and @RealHughJackman all under the stalwart leadership of @ShawLevyDirect,” Reynolds wrote on X. “I got to make a movie with my closest pals and that doesn’t happen very often. See ya July 26th… ⚔️🥺⚔️.”
Even Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman shared his own message on X with pictures of him getting the iconic Wolverine chops shaved, writing, “What a ride!!! I’ve loved every minute of making this movie. Well not the training and diet but the other 93.2%. To the best cast and crew, thank you! You are all aces. To two of my best mates @VancityReynolds and @ShawnLevyDirect I literally couldn’t have done this without you. Literally! July 26th can’t come soon enough. Time to shave.”
Even though Marvel keeps the plot for Deadpool 3 under wraps, the movie will mark Deadpool’s entry into the MCU and may also introduce characters from the Fox-era X-Men. The film also marks Marvel Studios’ debut in the R-rated category and stands as the studio’s first film featuring a character who previously led a franchise under 20th Century Fox.
Deadpool 3 boasts a screenplay penned by a stellar team including Reynolds, Levy, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, and Zeb Wells. Currently, no trailers, plot details, or cast details beyond Reynolds, Jackman, Emma Corin and Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen starring have been revealed, but we did get some BTS shots during production that tease a pretty intense fight and interesting setpieces.
This will also be Marvel Studios’ first go-around with Jackman, who hung up his claws after 2017’s Logan but has since chosen to reprise his iconic character. There are even talks about Jennifer Garner and Sir Patrick Stewart returning as Elektra and Professor Charles Xavier respectively; however, nothing’s officially been confirmed.
Deadpool 3 hits theaters on July 26.
