Prime Video has confirmed the Mr. and Mrs. Smith release date with the highly anticipated action reboot series to premiere on February 2, 2024. Alongside the announcement, Amazon also revealed five new images of stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine from the series, giving fans a taste of what the reimagining of the 2005 Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie blockbuster will look like.
The Mr. and Mrs. Smith release date confirmation comes just one month after Prime Video revealed a nine-second first look at the new series as part of the Prime Day ‘What’s Coming to Prime’ sneak peek video. The sizzle reel footage begins at the 1:10 mark, revealing Glover and Erskine in a packed elevator. Cut to a swanky restaurant where Glover asks Erskine with a smirk, “You ever kill anyone?” Amid explosions, running and reloading, she slyly replies, “Do I look like I have?” As the pair enjoy a soft pretzel on a park bench, Glover adds sarcastically, “This marriage is starting off on a great foot.”

While the project is based on the 2005 movie of the same name that starred once-wed IRL superstars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt as a married couple who discover they’re spies for rival agencies, this isn’t the first time the 2005 blockbuster tried TV.
Just two years after the film, a pilot for a spin-off series with Martin Henderson and the Fast franchise’s Jordana Brewster never made it to air. Then in 2010, Jolie said that she and Pitt had inquired about a potential sequel, but were disappointed with the suggested plots, which all revolved around a wedding, kids, or a separation.
Way back in 2021, Amazon Studios announced the current iteration, with Glover serving as co-creator and executive producer, as well as starring alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge, of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny fame.
Last year, Erskine took over the role from Waller-Bridge, who exited the project due to creative differences. In a conversation with himself for Interview magazine, Glover said, “I still like her. I assume she still likes me,” Glover previously said of Waller-Bridge, adding that Erskine’s “dope. It’s exciting. I really love the show. I’m writing the finale now.”
Also said to be in the cast in unspecified roles are Parker Posey, Wagner Moura, Michaela Coel, John Turturro and Paul Dano. Glover co-created the series with Atlanta writer Francesca Sloane, who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer.
