‘Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning’: Release Date, Teaser Trailer, Cast, and More

We kind of already knew another Mission Impossible movie was coming, but now we know what its called, and it’s title might point to it being the last outing in the blockbuster franchise. The movie, now called Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning, is set to launch in cinemas 22 May, 2025, and will continue the globe-trotting, catastrophe-averting antics of series hero Ethan Hunt (Cruise) as he seeks to complete one last mission.

The movie was originally intended to have come out in June of 2024, but was delayed by almost a year due to the Hollywood Actor’s Strike. Hopefully the extra time in the oven won’t deliver something overbaked.

The prior movie in the series, called Dead Reckoning: Part One, ‘struggled’ at the box office (if you consider a $291 million movie making $570 mission dollars a flop) due to launching alongside Barbie and Oppenheimer, but for our money, The Final Reckoning looks great. It’s bringing more of the frenetic stunt work we all know Cruise for, as well as his patented running posture.

Check out the new teaser trailer below.

“Our lives are the sum of our choices.”

What’s Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning About?

Beyond being a vehicle for Tom Cruise to keep doing insane stunts and risk his life for our amusement, there is actually a story being told here. In fact, The Final Reckoning is a continuation of the story of Dead Reckoning: Part One, following Hunt and his crew’s efforts to track down a state-of-the-art stealth submarine, the Sevastopol, with the goal of finding and shutting down a rogue AI known only as The Entity.

The Entity has infested ‘cyberspace’, essentially gaining the ability to control intelligence agencies around the world, and it’s Hunt’s job to find and shut the system down before someone gets control over it.

While the details of the plot are still unknown, the trailer does give some insight into the fact that this film is the culmination of the entire series, with the film’s tagline, ‘our lives are the sum of our choices’, showing that every decision Hunt has made throughout the past seven movies will come to bear in The Final Reckoning.
