Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are Hilariously Unprepared for Married Life in Prime Video’s ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ Trailer
Mr. & Mrs. Smith are back, and they’ve got more issues than your average power couple. Prime Video recently unveiled the explosive official trailer for the reimagined ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith‘ TV series, featuring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as the titular espionage partners, a role originally played by former real-life pair Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The upcoming eight-episode action reboot will follow Glover and Maya on a mission as they play the Smiths, a married couple working undercover for a mysterious spy agency.
As per the official synopsis for Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith reboot; “Two lonely strangers land a job working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch: new identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. & Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier, espionage or marriage?”

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith official trailer is a fast-paced, action-packed montage overflowing with sizzling romantic tension and side-splitting humour. We see Glover’s John and Erskine’s Jane meeting for the first time when John asks, “So, um.. This your first time in New York?” to which Jane responds, “Should we be asking each other that?” Later, Jane pops the big question, asking John if he has killed anyone. He responds with an uneasy smile, “No, no, not really.”
The trailer then teases the “glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travels” of the Smiths, as the pair takes on a global adventure. We also witness Glover and Erskine pulling off the whole fake marriage act pretending to be computer software engineers as they “navigate a high risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone.”
Despite all the facade of romance and happy couple act, Jane sets the record straight with John, saying, “I should be clear: I’m not in this for the romance.” As the trailer progresses, John and Jane’s camaraderie takes an unexpected turn, as their initial ‘strictly business partnership’ heats up into a passionate connection, leaving them battling not just enemies, but their own desires.
The trailer ends with Jane asking, “What do you think happens if we fail?” to which John responds, “Our marriage?” and Jane clarifies, “Our mission.” Donald Glover has co-created the series in collaboration with fellow ‘Atlanta‘ writer Francesca Sloane, who serves as the show’s executive producer and showrunner and contributes to its creative direction.
The executive producer lineup also features Glover, New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer. In addition to Glover and Erskine, the cast of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith‘ features a star-studded ensemble, including Paul Dano, Sarah Paulson, Alexander Skarsgård, Eiza González, Sharon Horgan, Ron Perlman, Billy Campbell, Úrsula Corberó, Michaela Coel, John Turturro, Parker Posey, and Wagner Moura.
Prime Video is set to release all eight episodes of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith‘ on February 2, 2024.
