Nicolas Cage Eyed For Gritty ‘Spider-Man Noir’ Live-Action Amazon Series

It looks like Amazon’s upcoming Spider-Man Noir live-action spin-off TV series has found its lead, and it’s none other than Nicolas Cage himself. First announced to be in the works by Variety back in December last year, with Steve Lightfoot as the showrunner, the yet-to-be-named series will reportedly expand on the adventures of the “older, grizzled superhero” in 1930s New York City.

Now, a new report from The Ankler has shed light on the status of multiple live-action co-productions from Marvel and Sony in the works at Prime Video. This included an update on the Spider-Man Noir spin-off, and it was reported that “Nicolas Cage is in serious talks to take on the lead role.”

According to staff writer Elaine Low (via The Ankler), Nicolas Cage is in “serious talks” to reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir for Amazon’s live-action superhero series set in 1930s New York City. “I’m told Nicolas Cage is circling ‘Spider-Man Noir’ as that project gains steam (…) Also in the works is Spider-Man Noir, where I’m told Nicolas Cage is in serious talks to take on the lead role on the series, which will be set in 1930s New York City. Sony declined to comment,” Low wrote.

Last year, Variety even reported that the upcoming live-action Spider-Man Noir series will be set in a different universe and feature a new Spider-Man, distinct from the familiar Peter Parker. Steve Lightfoot will co-showrun and executive produce alongside Oren Uziel. Nicolas Cage, who voiced the character in Sony’s 2018 hit ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’, has expressed interest in returning to the role, despite not appearing in the recent sequel.

During his acceptance speech for the Best Supporting Actor statue for playing Dracula in Renfield, at the 51st Saturn Awards, Cage talked a bit about the in-development Spider-Man Noir television series and the character itself. Cage said (via Entertainment Tonight), “Well, I heard about that. But you know what’s interesting, the animated movie got an award tonight. And it just… it works on every level. You know, it has the pedigree, it’s a critical darling, but it’s a commercial darling — people love the show, So, I’m proud to a be a part of that as well.”

As of writing, Amazon and Sony’s Spider-Man Noir TV series has no official title, release date, or cast and it’s unclear how far along the project is.
