Rick and Morty Season 7 Release Date
According to Adult Swim, ‘Rick and Morty‘ Season 7 is gearing up for its premiere on October 15, 2023 in the US and on Australian Netflix on October 16, 2023. With a thrilling lineup of 10 brand-new episodes, Adult Swim confirmed the release date alongside a cryptic message on the first season poster, which reads, “We ride together. We die together. We’re buried in the backyard together.”
During the new season announcement, Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, stated, It’s happening. Thanks to the talent of the entire show team, we can all enjoy 10 new episodes that yet again raise the bar for comedy and animation. This season proves that the geniuses at work on Rick and Morty are just getting started.”
Rick and Morty Season 7 Cast
Just like clockwork, Rick and Morty Season 7 will bring back the familiar voices of Sarah Chalke, Spencer Grammer, and Chris Parnell to breathe life into their beloved characters Beth, Summer, and Jerry. However, the burning question on everyone’s lips is who will step into the roles of the titular characters following Justin Roiland’s departure.
The TV series‘ co-creator Justin Roiland faced legal trouble in May 2020, including domestic battery and false imprisonment charges, along with sexual assault allegations. As a result, Roiland was removed from the show, and Adult Swim even announced they would be bringing in soundalike voice actors to replace his characters.
Voice Replacements
The show has wrapped up the final stages of recasting the new voice actors, but Adult Swim hasn’t spilled the beans on who they are just yet. During an interview with The Wrap, series co-creator Dan Harmon revealed that they’re planning to drop new seasons of Rick and Morty every year, and he even threw in the notion of doing it “forever.”
Harmon remarked, “This is the strangest thing I’ve ever said about the show and it still feels unreal to say it, but we’ll be doing a season a year now. I still don’t understand how that’s possible. But that’s why it never happened on my watch. (Showrunner) Scott (Marder) is able to keep us on a schedule that mostly involves being so ahead of schedule that we can actually release things in a timely manner.”
Despite Roiland’s departure, Season 7 seems to retain the series’ high quality, with Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen assuring fans that the only major change you can expect is new voices for the titular characters. Ouweleen said, “This season proves that the geniuses at work on ‘Rick and Morty’ are just getting started.”
While the network has been tight-lipped about the new voice actors so far, an official announcement seems imminent. After all, Adult Swim can’t hold back a trailer forever, so it’s safe to assume that the mystery won’t remain unsolved for much longer.
Here’s a quick rundown of the currently known Rick and Morty cast for Season 7:
- TBD as Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith
- Chris Parnell as Jerry Smith
- Spencer Grammer as Summer Smith
- Sarah Chalke as Beth Smith and Space Beth
Rick and Morty Season 7 Plot
Adult Swim has kept a tight lid on Season 7’s plot and storyline details. However, in typical Rick and Morty fashion, the network did offer fans a taste of what to expect in the upcoming season through a cheeky press release: “Rick and Morty are back and sounding more like themselves than ever! It’s season seven, and the possibilities are endless: What’s up with Jerry? EVIL Summer?! And will they ever go back to the high school?! Maybe not! But let’s find out! There’s probably less piss than last season. ‘Rick and Morty,’ 100 years! Or at least until season 10!”
While nothing’s set in stone, it looks like Rick and Morty Season 7 is probably going to focus on Rick’s quest to find Rick Prime. Recently enough, Adult Swim dropped a teaser (see below) called Rick v. Rick Prime when they announced the release date, hinting at this storyline.
Just to clarify, Rick Prime is not the same as Evil Rick from Season 1, who turned out to be controlled by Evil Morty. Rick Prime is an alternate version of Rick who’s the one responsible for the tragedy in Rick’s life involving his wife and daughter.
What Will Season 7 of Rick and Morty Be About?
In the closing moments of the Season 6 finale, named ‘Rickitional Mortpoon’s Rickmas Mortcation’, Rick gave us a glimpse of what’s on the horizon in one of his classic rants to Morty, saying, “Rick and Morty season seven. Hunting my nemesis. Maybe trying to stay healthy while doing it, juggling plates – not every episode, Morty, it could be all happening in the background. Who knows?” Even Rick isn’t sure how long it’ll take for him to finally track down Rick Prime, and in the final scenes of season 6, he tells Morty, “It’s gonna take over your life, Morty!”
It’s likely that Rick Prime might remain a prominent character for upcoming seasons, which could consequently pave the way for fresh revelations. As for what else could be in store, well, you can expect to see some new and old characters pop up as well as additional connections and a more interconnected storyline.
