Netflix is doubling down on adult animation and has just unveiled a new limited TV series titled Carol & The End Of The World. This fresh new upcoming series comes from the creative mind of Dan Guterman, a former writer for hit shows like Community and Rick and Morty, and is affectionately billed as “a love letter to routine.”
Ten half-hour episodes make up the series, which unfolds in a world facing imminent annihilation as a mysterious planet hurtles toward Earth. In the midst of a society of joyous revellers, Carol, a reserved and perpetually uneasy woman, finds herself isolated, adrift among the reckless pleasure-seekers.
The synopsis for Netflix’s Carol & The End Of The World reads, “With a mysterious planet hurtling towards Earth, extinction is imminent for the people of the world. While most feel liberated to pursue their wildest dreams, one quiet and always uncomfortable woman stands alone — lost among the hedonistic masses.”
Emmy-nominated actress Martha Kelly, best known for her roles in FX’s Baskets and HBO’s Euphoria, takes on the lead role as Carol in Netflix’s upcoming adult animated series. It also features an all-star cast including Michael Chernus (Severance, Spider-Man: Homecoming), Bridget Everett ‘Somebody Somewhere, Patti Cake$), Beth Grant (No Country For Old Men, The Mindy Project), Lawrence Pressman (Reboot’ and Modern Family), Kimberly Hébert Gregory (Craig of the Greek, Vice Principals), Mel Rodriguez (Onward, Last Man On Earth), and Delbert Hunt (Monster High, Super Giant Robot Brothers).
In his statement about the series, creator Guterman remarked, “Carol & The End Of The World is a love letter to routine. A show about the comforts of monotony. An animated and existential comedy about the daily rituals that make up the gaps that make up a life.”
Besides being the show’s creator, Guterman also serves as an executive producer for the show. Joining him in this capacity is Donick Cary, renowned for his work on The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation, and Silicon Valley. Additionally, Kevin Arrieta, known for his contributions to Wilfred and The Last O.G., serves as the co-executive producer. Bardel Entertainment Inc. is responsible for the animation production.
Carol & The End Of The World is slated to hit Netflix on December 15, just in time for the holidays.
