Comparing the Size of Fictional Buildings is Pretty Entertaining

Just how big is the Avengers Tower? If you’ve found yourself wondering how tall some of the buildings are in your favorite movies and games, MetaBall Studios has a video that walks through the sizes of different buildings, comparing their size and reporting on their height and size. Set against a backdrop of a modern city, you’ll get a real feeling for the immensity of some of the buildings.

As far as buildings in the real world go, the current record holder is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. This structure stands at 2,716 feet. That’s pretty impressive, but doesn’t really compare to some of the buildings on MetaBall Studios’ list. For the video, MetaBall Studios looked at everything from science fiction to fantasy. The structures include buildings from Star Wars to Lord of the Rings to Game of Thrones to Skyrim and even Spongebob Squarepants—plus many more. The Hightower is the tallest structure from Game of Thrones, only just beating out the Great Pyramid of Meeren and the Wall (which comes in at 700 feet). That’s taller than Orthanc from The Lord of the Rings and the sultan’s palace from Aladdin. But if you want to go for the really massive, consider the Senate Building from Star Wars. It measures 2,000 feet—much larger than the approximately 2.5 meters of Yoda’s hut. Sauron’s Fortress in Mordor from the Lord of the Rings tops 5,000 feet. Not tall enough? What about the Korin Tower from Dragon Ball Z? It measures 25,000 feet tall. What’s the biggest structure of all? The dome from The Truman Show. This dome that covered and controlled the life of Truman Burbank, played by Jim Carrey, measured 50,000 feet in diameter.

There’s a pretty good representation of buildings in the video, and it’s a little startling to see them compared against each other. The comparison puts things into perspective. It’s a good thing that some of these buildings are fictional, though we seem to be headed in that direction with our own meager construction.
