The best Japanese denim jeans are an investment, but you don’t have to be a selvedge expert to understand why. Once broken in they’re the perfect blend of form and function, and with care, they could last you a lifetime with their unmatched quality and timeless aesthetic. Often rooted in Americana styling, these jeans are made in the best Japanese Mills with the finest fabrics, and while they’re often hard to find outside of the motherland some of our favourite denim brands often lean on these mills to create a collection of their own at a more affordable price point.

Enter Levi’s, the most famous denim brand in the world. They’ve worked with Japan’s Kaihara Denim Mill to create a modern take on its Blue Tab collection for Autumn/Winter 25. Pricing for jeans starts at AUD$329.95, but this is the brand’s most elevated and sophisticated expression yet so the price is at least justified in terms of quality.

The collection features several pieces for both men and women and has a clear focus on Americana stylings. That means you’ll find everything from lightweight denim shirt jackets and overshirts to a classic Fishtail Parka that’s made with lightweight neppy denim shirting and features snap detailing around the chest.

While the denim jeans are the star of the show here, and feature below in 18 different styles, we love the new jackets. There’s a Scout Jacket (AUD$399.95) which is crafted with a powder blue proprietary selvedge denim created alongside Japan’s Kaihara Denim Mill. However, our favourite is the Blue Tab Type 1 Jacket (the darker blue denim jacket) with its cropped fit and engineered sleeve. It’s such a throwback 1980s design and is the perfect piece to pair with some selvedge jeans when you want the full Canadian suit.

Last but not least, there’s a new heavyweight Classic White T-shirt (AUD$99.95) that’s piqued our interest. You’ll want to make sure your denim is thoroughly worn in before wearing this one (to avoid staining) but we were excited to find out that it’s made from some of the highest quality 100% cotton construction we’ve seen in shirting. Clearly, there’s a reason it’s already partly sold out at the time of writing.
