Designer Behind Post Malone’s Custom Outfits Drops First Collection – ‘Candy Flip’
When he’s not designing Post Malone’s custom cowboy hats and outfits, Roman Jody, of label Jody Just, is working on his own statement pieces. With designs that feature the same bold patterns and prints popularised by the brands signature custom cowboy hats. These garms’ offer a new elevated direction for designer, incorporating his experience as an art director, stylist, model and resident DJ in the downtown New York scene. The result is an authentic connection to the culture reflected in every piece.

Back in 2019, Jody moved home to Sydney where he continued to fortify his label and strengthen his presence as one of the worlds foremost creatives. He immediately captured the interest of local talents such as Blessed, Huskii, Johnny Hunter, Triple One, Box Boy, Kwame, and Spit Syndicate. Blending a mixture of contemporary streetwear staples to custom upcycled pieces and now cut and sew designer products with customisation at scale. We like to think of Jody as the shoe surgeon of streetwear. And just like his sneaker contemporary, the designs speak for themselves.
While the brand has continued to further establish its identity there is a common theme that has stuck from the very beginning; an authentically underground aesthetic with the edge of New York nightlife and Punk sensibilities. Themes that are best represented in his first collection – Candy Flip.
“Candy flipping is the act of taking hallucinogens and stimulants at the same time, diving into a sensory abyss with the expectation of a new state of being. It’s like anything else you do know that you might not come out the other side the same but you do it anyway because why not,” said Roman Jody.
The collection is a combination of cut-and-sew pieces and bespoke garments that are hand-painted, featuring iconic locally sourced vintage jeans and cowboy hats which are made in Mexico. The lookbook features a Sydney star-studded cast including Blessed, Johnny Hunter, Huskii, Nooky, Leng Hock, Dante Knows, Marty Bugatti (Triple One), Kurt Johnson and Harry Barclay.
Each piece is fully custom and made to order. Designed completely freehand, with no stencils, prints or
sketches made beforehand, his working method showcases his unique artistry and creative flair. Both of which require an enormous amount of time and attention to detail. Our favourite pieces include the Sydney Style hoodies which are a celebration of the graffiti style seen around the city. They’re also a more personable piece and although Jody doesn’t bomb back cars anymore, he still sketches every other day and will paint low key walls.
Finally, Jody is pleased to announce the Custom Cowboy Hats, as seen on Post Malone and Vanessa Hudgens, make their official launch in ‘Candy Flip’. Handmade in Mexico, the hats are straw-coated and hand-painted one by one. Arriving in a range of styles inked with a variety of tattoo-like designs you’re guaranteed to stand out from the crowd, especially with the classic crown of thorns brim.
