Over the years, we’ve seen the fashion house push the limits of what is socially acceptable and physically possible in fashion, but the new USD$2,345 (AUD$3,200) Louis Vuitton Coffee Cup Pouch is toying with the idea of what is fiscally responsible. Unveiled as part of the Virgil Abloh’s Everyday LV Fall/Winter 2021-22 show, the LV Coffee Cup takes the monogram bag to new levels. Small, stocky and entirely devoid of any function, the new accessory is hard to justify, but who cares?

Wrapped in cowhide-leather trim, the bag stands at 19cm and features the iconic LV branding front and centre. You’ll also find the monogram littered throughout the design, most notably on the white leather lid. Like all good travel pouches, the small-sized urban luggage is sealed with a double zipper, presumably to keep your cafe latte warm and your clothes free from stains.
“Playing with the elements of everyday morning routines, Virgil Abloh designs a trompe l’oeil pouch that looks like an oversized coffee cup. It can be carried by hand or worn crossbody thanks to its strap,” the official listing reads.
In terms of hardware, the Louis Vuitton Coffee Cup has all the premium features and add-ons you’d expect from the French luxury house. It cops matte-brown hardware and a removable and adjustable shoulder strap, emblazoned with the iconic LV logo. But while the idea of a $3,000 leather Coffee Cup holder does seem ridiculous, it’s far from the most ludicrous thing Abloh has in store.
Also revealed as part of the Everyday LV Fall/Winter show is the new Carrot Pouch, which looks, as you might expect, like a carrot. Crafted from orange Monogram canvas with green leather leaves, the playful accessory is one of the more interesting aspects to Abloh’s LV legacy. It stands at 25cm in height and features a pouch with a snap-hook for attaching to bags, and a main compartment with a silver-tone zipper. Priced at USD$1,425 (AUD$1,940), the LV Carrot Pouch might just be the strangest piece of kit Louis Vuitton has unveiled in recent memory, but judging by the string of releases that have landed this year, it’s just the tip of the iceberg.
