While we all might be yearning after that TAG Heuer, IWC or OMEGA, the reality is that most of us don’t have spare cash laying around to splurge on the watch of our dreams. The good news is, there’s still plenty of wrist candy, elegance and style available for you at a more affordable price point. So Man of Many is breaking down this mammoth list of the 100+ best affordable watches just for you. Each one checks in at under $1,000 and yet still looks and performs like a million bucks. 1. Tissot T Classic Tradition Quartz Chronograph

Kicking off our list of best affordable watches is the T-Classic Tradition (yes, its Quartz), a simply beautiful dress watch that you can wear with a variety of straps to alter its genome and purpose. Oversized sub-dials, exposed crown and mushroom pushers look wonderful, and the sword-hands add an element of class and timelessness to the piece. Priced accordingly with respect to its movement, you’d be forgiven for purchasing the piece based on aesthetics alone. This swiss made gem has a vintage look you will love to wear in all situations.

2. Elliot Brown Bloxworth

The Bloxworth combines a distinct diver’s chronograph feel with a contemporary method of casing to create a piece that is both timeless in design and extremely wearable in nature. The gunmetal PVD stainless steel case gives the watch a very versatile feel, while the exposed pushers and crown makes the piece seem larger than its 44 millimetres. A decent piece, but a bit overpriced considering the fact that it uses a Quartz movement. It’s not worthy of the “luxury” moniker. Nevertheless, it’s on our list of best affordable watches so rest assured it’s still pretty damn great!

5. TW Steel CEO TECH

Very Hublot-esque slash AP vibe, the CEO Tech is a proportionally massive watch that unfortunately won’t sit well on everyone’s wrist. The dark and light grey hues look awesome though, and the addition of the red coloured hints break up the monotonous colour scheme quite well. Not a bad piece, its Quartz, but the price reflects that so all is good.

One of the more beautiful timepieces featured in this article and easily one of the best affordable watches for under $1,000 is the Uniform Wares M42 Chronograph, a great minimalistic piece that isn’t overly large and won’t break the bank. The applied hour markers and depressed sub-dial registers look wonderful, and while the date window is a bit out of place it doesn’t look all that bad. Simply designed, ingeniously executed.

7. Seiko Men’s SSC017 Prospex Solar Stainless Steel Dive Watch

Slightly reminiscent of Rolex’s BLNR GMT, the Seiko Prospex Solar is the kind of water-resistant timepiece I’d seriously consider as a legitimate first watch purchase and a welcomed entry on our list of best affordable watches. Its classic Seiko design is timeless and functional and the addition of the blue hints on the bezel and sub-dial hand looks incredible. The mushroom pushers look great, and my only issue is the shape of the hands. Another winner from Seiko. Destine to be your best everyday dive watch.

So notwithstanding the fundamentals of watchmaking, the Nixon Chronograph timepiece in gold is the kind of watch you’d purchase merely for the aesthetics of the piece. You wouldn’t walk into a store and inquire on its power reserve or timekeeping abilities, rather you’d make your purchasing judgment on how it looks on your wrist. And there isn’t anything wrong with that. This one ranks as one of the best affordable watches on sight! Decidedly one of the best gold watches for under $1,000.

10. Burberry Sport Chronograph Black Dial Red Rubber Mens Watch BU7706

More show than go, the Burberry Sport Chronograph will appeal to a very specific person. The touches of red against the light grey of the case and bezel, and the dark grey of the dial won’t tickle everyone’s fancy, but for those that love this colour combo (and I’m not denying its appeal), it would be a suitable choice. Powered by a Quartz battery, its the no-hassle modern-chic-type everyday watch for all of you red lovers out there, and will assuredly appeal to those on the prowl for the best affordable watches.

Very similar to that of an IWC-designed pilot’s watch, the Stowa Ikarus is a beautiful-looking piece. The grainy textured dial, cream coloured hands and hour numerals, and onion-shaped crown all play to the vintage pilot’s theme. The stylish black leather strap makes this a legendary aviator watch at an affordable price. 19. SEVENFRIDAY Men’s P3-1 RACER Analog Display Japanese Automatic Black Watch

For some bizarre reason, Sevenfriday cop a lot of flack from “seasoned” watch enthusiasts. Their designs are different and definitely outside the box. However, I really like their pieces and am therefore proud to include them on the list of best affordable watches. The designs are very different, ultra masculine and super cool. Some of the best affordable watches come from places near and dear to our hearts. Take the Portsea for example. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia (duh!), the MWC Portsea is beautiful triple calendar that combines original design with functional capacity. The Portsea has a textured inner dial with blue steel hands and a wonderfully polished case. Looking for an all-black, stealth-like bold watch that you can customise to your heart’s desire and wear every day regardless of what you’re wearing? Don’t care about the mechanism? You’d probably do well in reading up on the Maverick from Hypergrand. Brash styling that’s both distinct and revered, the Maverick isn’t something you’re going to see every day, and that’s a good thing. One of the more interesting pieces I’ve featured, aesthetically speaking, the Zelos Abyss 3000m Bronze is an all or nothing, balls to the wall, serious piece of wristwear and one of the best affordable watches on the market. Beyond the obvious (3000m of water crushing resistance!), the highlight of the piece for me is the contrast between the multi-level blue dial and the bronze case. Over time, the case will patina, and for that purpose alone I’d get one. Otherwise, its a very cool piece that will surely catch your friend’s wandering eyes.

Product image of Thomas Sabo Rebel at Heart

27. Thomas Sabo Rebel at Heart

A fashion piece that is about as interesting as a lump of coal. A boring and overused design, couple with a tacky blue dial and band, with a gold-coloured case that will be sure to look horrible after a couple of months worth of exposure to the elements. Priced ridiculously, considering what you can get in the used market. A boring, standard off the shelf design that I wouldn’t recommend, even to the most pretentious and image obsessed individual, which wouldn’t exactly make it one of the best affordable watches. Hmmm…I guess I don’t know why it’s on the list.

29. Shinola The Runwell Chrono Rose Gold

A highly polarising design from Shinola, the Runwell Chrono is brash and unique. Admittedly, I’m not its biggest fan. Its design seems all over the place. It seems to lack direction and purpose. Brown strap, rose gold coloured case, white dial, and then these super intrusive orange coloured hints. I don’t really understand the reasoning of the piece, or its target market. Orient, like Seiko, are a very underrated Asia-based brand that tend to get overlooked based on the assumption that their pieces are sub-par and aren’t of the same calibre as a Swiss-made timepiece. This isn’t true, as their pieces are made with same gusto and passion as their Swiss counterparts. 38. Sekford Type 1A Stainless Steel And Leather Watch

A step up into the upper echelons of horological minimalism is the Sekford Type 1A. The missing seconds hand does more for the simplicity of the piece than I think the designers thought it would, as it brings home the true essence of minimalism in watches. The small numerals, and equally small hours/minutes hand does wonders for the simplicty of the piece, but I’m afraid the price tag for a Quartz watch is a bit of a deterrent.

Citizen Promaster Sky Eco-Drive Solar Watch | Image: Citizen Watch

45. Citizen Promaster Sky Eco-Drive Solar Watch

The name Citizen inherently rarely attracts attention. Mainly due to the fact that the majority of their pieces are boring and redundant. The Promaster, on the other hand, carries with it elements of interest and intrigue. It has a busy dial that incorporates several different functions, with the outer ring showing the world time. At 44mm, it is right on the cusp of wearability and comfort, and if you’re anything like me then you’d be right in thinking the only thing it needs is a new strap. Throw a black NATO with white stitching on it and you’ve got a watch that you won’t stop looking at and one of the best affordable watches.

Seiko is the kind of brand that you either buy from because you have to, or you buy from because you know what they represent. That is, good quality watches for a decent price. The ProspEx Diver is another one of those “no-frills” quality daily beaters scuba watches that you can wear in the office or at the beach. Durable enough to last several lifetimes, it isn’t going to be the smallest watch in your arsenal, but it will definitely be your “go-to” piece.

47. Timex Intelligent Quartz Depth Gauge Dive Watch

Historically Timex haven’t had the greatest success. Their watches haven’t been met with the same open arms as Seiko, but with Timex you know exactly what you’re going to get before you even get the watch. Quartz be damned, some times you just have to grin and bear the fact that alot of watches under the $1K mark are priced that way because of that little battery. The Depth Gauge is the kind of watch you get before you buy your first proper watch. Its sturdy, its versatile and it sure as hell looks good. Massive crown and pushers make the wearability factor a bit hazy for me, but otherwise a solid all rounder.

Tissot are heavily underrated in the big scheme of things. This piece is just another reason why people need to start paying them more attention. Well proportioned with great sub-dial symmetry, crown/pusher placement and lug design all equate to a superb piece. The use of the ETA c01.211 is another reason why Tissot need to be shown a bit more love. A very respectable piece.

Not a brand typically spoken of by “watch guys”, Nixon produced watches for the specific consumer. Think blonde hair, surfboard tucked under arm, bronze tan type consumer. Just kidding, but seriously, their best affordable watches don’t beat around the bush. They do what they claim to do and the brand represents itself as a lifestyle brand, not a horological powerhouse. Drop the price a bit and then I’d see it their way, but otherwise a decent piece for the consumer who knows what they want.

51. Anstead Oceanis

The next micro-brand to be featured is Anstead with their Oceanics Divers piece. The piece has an enormously thick rotating bezel, but is offset quite well with the regular sized crown and short guards. The lugs do well to pull out the watch and stop it looking stumpy, while the dial’s simplicity is welcoming and legible. The Oceanis uses the extremely common but forever dependable Miyota 9015 as its chosen mechanism. It looks great under a shirt cuff or on a naked wrist — a decent piece for a good price.

52. Marathon Jumbo Search and Rescue (JSAR)

Proportionally a bit odd, the Marathon Jumbo Search and Rescue has a super thin bezel relative to its heft. The hour numerals are thin and elongated, while the hands are very thick, which looks a bit odd. The addition of the 24-hour inner chapter ring and the weirdly placed date window makes the dial a bit of a hit and miss for me. The stainless steel case is neatly polished though, and its safe to say the crown is my favourite feature.

The “Monster” divers from Seiko are so damn cool. They’re a play between design functionality and dial aesthetics. What I see may be different to what you see, and thats the point. The case itself is a comfortable 43mm, and at only 14.5mm thick, it will wear extremely well regardless of your outfit. Longines were once regarded as one of the finest watchmaking manufacturers during the early 1900s, but have since lost their influence and desirability. I, however, love them. The HydroConquest is just another reason why they should be seriously considered when purchasing a watch. The deep blue on the dial and bezel look awesome, and the steel bracelet is well polished and comfortable. My only issue is the oversized numbers with the undersized date window, which looks a bit odd when you look at the watch as a whole. Otherwise, not a bad piece, even for a Quartz!

The combination of bronze and black makes for a classic pilot’s watch, and with time that bronze will age and develop a beautiful patina. Hamilton’s take on the classic pilot’s watch combines the typical design features found in a vintage pilot’s piece with contemporary aesthetic design. The crown guards and lugs seem to blend into each other, while the dial looks large due to the missing bezel. 60. Momo Design Pilot Pro Crono

Looking more like a G-Shock and less like a Pilot, the Momo Design Pilot Pro is a piece that isn’t going to appeal to everyone. The pilot watch purists probably won’t accept this as a true pilot’s piece, and nor should they. The design is less pilot and more random, with a lack of direction from the piece the main theme here. If you’re going to call it a pilot’s watch, then make it look like a pilot’s watch. Otherwise, call it like it is: a messy, directionless Quartz watch. Massive “meh” from me…aww shucks, I’ll put it on the list of best affordable watches anyway. Clearly a top aviation watch for under $1,000.

Reminiscent of a Jacques Droz slash Nomos collaboration, this piece from Ernest Borel is beautifully designed and extremely well put together. The watch is interesting without being too ostentatious. Its design is very different and very unique, a trait that rarely works. But this one is a bit different. A day indicator with an hour/minutes indicator overlapping it, and a small-seconds register with an oversized date window. What’s not to love? As of late I’ve been paying a bit more attention to Victorinox as a watch manufacturer, and I’ve been enjoying it. An ordinary piece at first sight, I must agree, but if you look a bit closer and a tad more carefully you’ll soon realise that it is the kind of watch you’d want to consider purchasing. Design chic and flair is what I look for the most from micro-brands. Individuality is what I look for in the best affordable watches from those brands. The Rossling & Co Rogart gives me both in spades. Its design is reminiscent of something from Nomos (minus the price tag), and thats not a bad thing. The watch offsets the white dial with the blue hands very well, and the small date window next to the semi-sized crown looks fantastic. Add an automatic movement and what you get is a Bauhaus style design that is both contemporary and elegant, and one of the best affordable watches you can buy.

83. Maurice Lacroix Men’s Automatic Chronograph

A beautifully designed automatic chronograph is a must for any collection and a real treat when it comes to the best affordable watches. The Maurice Lacroix chronograph utilises the contrast between black and polished silver to create a dramatic timepiece that can be worn leisurely or dressed up. The addition of the date window is surprising but very welcoming, and the exposed pushers and crown look phenomenal. A wonderfully executed piece that may be the perfect chronograph I’ve featured throughout this article of best affordable watches. One of the best chronographs for this price range.

84. Citizen BL5250 Perpetual Calendar

A very Breguet-inspired case design, the Citizen Perpetual Calendar is a combination of vintage feel and modern design. The busy dial appeals to the watch nerd in me, and the bezel, crown and pushers set the tone of the watch off perfectly. Sure it’s a Quartz, but expect to pay tens of thousands of dollars for a mechanical equivalent.

85. Shinola The Runwell Sport Chrono Black Dial

A solid piece that incorporates a bit of pilot’s watch design chic with functional flair. The combination of large numbers and small sub-dials allows the wearer to easily differentiate the watch’s functions. Quite a good looking watch, the only thing I’m not really enjoying is the onion crown. It doesn’t suit the design of the watch and shouldn’t really be there. Otherwise, it’ll do. For a Quartz.

86. Timex Flyback Chronograph

I actually really enjoy Timex’s Flyback Chronograph function. Its fun to play with and operates quite well, especially for a Quartz. I like the busy dial layout, and while some may argue that it draws away from the piece’s functionality, I think that the dial is still very legible and it’s easy to differentiate the different functions from one another. A very casual watch, it’s not something you’d wear with a suit, but its definitely a looker and a no-brainer addition to our list of best affordable watches.

87. Citizen Primo Chronograph

The first thing that comes to mind when I look at this watch is heavy-duty. It looks like the kind of watch you can wear on a construction site and not be worried about breaking it. Realistically, it probably won’t do well under a hammer, but either way, it looks unbreakable. Combine that with a sporty design and you have a very nice everyday piece. The best affordable watches should still tour durability and that this one does.

88. Seiko Sportura Alarm Chronograph

Among the best affordable watches and the best watches alike, a very nice colour combination that we know works, gold and black, has been used by Seiko to create a piece that you can wear with virtually any outfit. The brand knows a thing or two about crafting the best affordable watches and this one is naturally no exception. The dial is nice and busy but still well laid out and very readable. The exposed pushers, crown and crown guards, as well as lengthened lugs, make an otherwise typical case a bit more interesting. The bezel looks fantastic, and while it uses a Quartz movement, it still looks and sounds extremely appealing.

You have a date window which is always helpful, while the hands and hour numerals are all finished in luminescent materials. The case is a deep black made of titanium and looks sleek and versatile.

92. Nixon Men’s A0831041 51-30 Chrono Watch

At 51mm this is probably the largest watch I’ve featured throughout this article, and as such for a lot of people this is probably going to be too big. But for you massive wristed humans, you may want to take note. The Nixon Chronograph is big and hefty, but in my opinion a tad overpriced and definitely indicative of the brand’s fashion ethos, rather than horological inclined design (which is typically a lot more modest in size). But, if you like it you like it. Nothing I say will change that. Maybe.

93. Burberry Chronograph Gunmetal Dial Grey Ion-plated Stainless Steel Mens Watch BU9381

The second Burberry piece I’ve featured on our list of best affordable watches, this one looks slightly more stealth-like and a bit meaner thanks to the grey ion-plated stainless steel case and bracelet design. The grey and dark grey colour contrast lets the piece look sleek but still sit hefty and weighty on your wrist, and at 42mm it won’t wear overly large. Quartz powered (no surprise), this is more of a visual timepiece than anything mechanically inclined.

94. Steinhart Nav B-Chrono II Black Special Edition

I’ve had my eye on this piece for a while now. Just haven’t been able to bring myself to pulling the trigger on it! It’s a beautiful piece and one of the best affordable watches, so obviously inspired by the IWC Pilot’s design. A homage, not a rip off, and it’s important to remember the difference. It isn’t the cheapest piece on this list, but it is one of the more refined. A real triumph in the market of homage pieces.

Something very different from what’s been featured on our list of best affordable watches, the March Lab AM1 has a beautiful sub-burst dial, gold hands and hour indices and an over-sized crown at the unconventional but still very cool 4 o’clock location. The mirror-polished case against the darkened dial looks wonderful, and the small date window doesn’t obscure from an otherwise stunning aesthetic. Viscerally superb and mechanically sound, the AM1 is something out of the ordinary but still super awesome.

96. Hamilton Men’s H77616533 Chronograph Watch

In the market bracket of sub-$1000 watches you’re unfortunately going to be exposed to a lot of crap, i.e. products that don’t really belong on a list of best affordable watches. Heck, even on our list of best affordable watches you’ll find some junk. However, this one is something so much the opposite I’m considering getting it for myself as I write this. The Hamilton Chronograph is something that the budget-conscious watch lover should consider for their next purchase. The asymmetical alignment of the crowns and the dial layout is almost perfect, and the addition of an automatic movement is like the cherry on top of a pleasant little cupcake. Do away with the stock strap, throw a NATO on it and you’ve got your hands on one of the best affordable watches (assuming a price just south of $1000 is still affordable to you).

The Hawker Harrier II incorporates a deep black dial with a lovely rose-gold case and crown offset by a vintage-inspired strap that looks sublime. When it comes to hunting for the best affordable watches I’m all about variety, and for the modern day watch lover that can’t get their hand off of their phone this piece may interest you as well. The Moto 360 combines typical watch design with modern technological usability and interface functionality. Check the time, sure. Read updates and notifications from your phone, yep. See how your body is doing, uh-huh. Its the kind of watch that does it all, but isn’t going to scream “preppy-sophistication” like the Apple Watch or the Samsung Gear. Its going to fly under the radar, and maybe thats why I can appreciate it so much.

100. Casio – G-Shock – GravityMaster Series – GPS Hybrid Wave Ceptor – Black/Blue – GPW1000-1A

A bit different from the previous G-Shock that I featured, the Gravity Master Hybrid incorporates the usual technical prowess we’ve come to expect from Casio’s line of heavy duty watches, but this time with an analog display. Its a tank of a watch, no doubt, but it’s still very wearable and will surely survive any impending apocalyptic event, and isn’t that the point of a G-Shock’s existence?

101. Braun Men’s BN0106SLBTG Prestige Digital Digital Display Swiss Quartz Silver Watch

Braun have been released some very interesting pieces over the past few years. This piece is something very chic and very modern while utilising complications that are typical of a high-grade Swiss made piece. There’s the obvious time display, but there’s also a chronograph and a perpetual calendar good for a century. A bit expensive (hence perhaps an ironic addition to our list of best affordable watches) and no doubt a very polarising aesthetic, but still pretty cool.

102. Casio MTGS1000BD-1

And capping our list of best affordable watches is this stunner from Casio. G-Shocks have this certain charm to them that appeals to watch lovers and collectors of all calibres. From the Patek collector to the vintage lover, the G-Shock commands respect that is lost amongst a lot of similar priced pieces. Its because they are true to their roots and don’t front themselves as being something that they’re not. And for this, I love G-Shock. This specific piece has a beautiful dial texture that only adds to the durability effect of the piece. High-grade watchmaking that will certainly stand the test of time.
