Blancpain and Swatch have officially released the full Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection before it’s released in-store starting September 9th, 2023 with a price of AUD$630. The five watches in the non-limited collection will be powered by the in-house Sistem51 mechanical movement and colours will be themed on five oceans with colours matching the nudibranchs (sea slugs) that live in them.
Staying true to the Blancpain Fifty Fathom diving watch on which it’s based, the watches have an increased water resistance beyond that of any Bioceramic watch in the Swatch line-up. In fact, it’s waterproof all the way down to ‘Fifty Fathoms’ or 300ft (91 metres). This pairs with the same great legibility, secured rotating bezel, and anti-magnetic protection that we experienced when we dived with the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms last year.
The most impressive feature of the new watches is the exhibition case back that showcases the inner workings of the mechanical movement but also features an illustration of the sea slugs themselves. Furthermore, the NATO straps are sourced from recycled ocean plastic. Now, let’s take a closer look at the collection.

Blancpain x Swatch ‘Fifty Fathoms’ Full Collection

The full Blancpain x Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms Collection will be released in Australia on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 with prices set at AUD$630. It will be an in-store-only release in flagship Swatch boutiques across Australia, specifically; Queen St in Brisbane, Pitt St in Sydney and Collins St in Melbourne. Purchases will be limited to one watch per person per day.
Stand-out pieces from the collection are the Arctic Ocean and Antarctic Ocean which showcase historic nods to the heritage of the Fifty Fathoms line-up.
In the case of the Arctic Ocean, it features a special ‘NO RADIATIONS’ symbol on the dial: a red trefoil on a yellow background with a white cross-cutting through it. This harks back to the 1960s when the dials on these diver’s watches used the ‘NO RADIATIONS’ logo to show that they did not contain radium. Most recently, Blancpain used them on a special edition ‘Fifty Fathoms’ reference. 5008D-1130-B64A.
Following on from tradition, the Antarctic Ocean model offers a functional water contact indicator that detects the presence of water. This makes sure the watch’s water resistance has not been affected, indicating the presence of moisture with a change of colour. Most recently, Blancpain re-released the Fifty Fathoms (ref. 5008-11B30-NABA) with a two-colour sensor bearing the name “MIL-SPEC”, in accordance with US Navy specifications.
