Breitling Announce their Chronomat Collection for 2020

Businesses are having to adopt new practices with the coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc on traditional sales models. With the watch industry’s spring show schedule in shambles, Breitling CEO Georges Kern took to the Internet, hosting the company’s first-ever webcast to introduce their newest collections. “We need to say in contact with watch lovers and watch fans around the world,” said Kern. “This is why we’re doing the webcast.” One of the collections debuted in the 18-minute long digital press conference was Breitling’s new Chronomat Collection.

The new Chronomat Collection is actually a revisiting of the company’s famous mechanical chronograph from 1984. Kern describes this collection of five watches as “all-purpose sports watches” and they come priced between $8.100 and $20,200. The 42mm cases follow in the same lines as the original Chronomat’s design, complete with a symmetrical silhouette. They’re attached to Rouleaux bracelets with butterfly clasps. “It made the Chronomat the watch to have at the time,” Kern says about the bracelet. “It’s the perfect watch to be worn with anything from casual to tuxedo.” The watches come in a range of metal and dial options—everything from stainless steel to red gold. The watches are powered by Breitling Manufacture Caliber 01. They have a power reserve of 70 hours and are COSC-certified. The watches also feature a rotating bezel that is highlighted by rider tabs at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock and are interchangeable so that you can use them for a count up or count down function. Each of the watches is also water resistant up to 200 meters.

“The 1984 Chronomat occupies a very important place in our modern history,” says Kern. “It was the watch that boldly proclaimed Breitling was staying absolutely true to its roots. When much of the industry-focused their efforts and energies on quartz watches, the Chronomat reminded the world that Breitling had essentially invented the modern mechanical chronograph. The message resonated and the brand prospered. The Chronomat Collection is a fitting tribute to the amazing watch that, more than any other, put us back in touch with our heritage.”
