The ‘World’s First’ Masturbation Advice Hotline for Men Has Launched

Tickling the pickle, flicking the bean, choking the chicken – whatever you want to call it, masturbation is one of those incredibly common human experiences that somehow manages to circumnavigate everyday conversation. I mean, when was the last time you talked to your mates about jerking off? But all that silence may not necessarily be doing you good. While we all like to think we’ve got a handle on our man-doodling, when issues do come up, short of an awkward trip to the GP, there’s no good place to look for answers. Modern problems require modern solutions and the team behind pleasure brand Arcwave is heeding the call, quite literally. The sex toy producer has just unveiled what they’re describing as the ‘world-first’ masturbation advice hotline for men. Sheesh.

According to the brand, the new masturbation hotline comes in response to startling new research around sexual education and communication. Surveying 7,244 men from 17+ countries, including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Spain and Switzerland, Arcwave uncovered a series of trends around sexual liberation and openness amongst men. Of the respondents, 30.8 per cent of men said they feel most comfortable discussing masturbation with their partner, while 20.8 per cent felt comfortable talking about it with a friend, while just 5.6 per cent were ok discussing it with a professional doctor.

“Unfortunately, there is still a taboo attached to masturbation,” Johanna Rief, head of sexual empowerment at Arcwave said. “While we’ve made significant progress breaking down the stigma in the last decade, the conversation around the health and wellness benefits of masturbation has been largely led by the female empowerment movement.”

In response, the sexual pleasure brand has launched the Masturbation Advice Hotline, which allows men to get the answers they need. When they call, men will be prompted with a menu to choose the kind of information they want to receive. Want to find out what a healthy masturbation routine is? Worried you’re dinging the dong a little too much? All is revealed in a discreet and personalised setting, however, there’s also the option to leave a message in order to get the contact details of a sexual wellness professional in your country.

“Opening up this new line of communication for men can help people identifying as male develop a similar masturbation mindset that gives more relevance to health and wellness-driven, but still fun, self-pleasure routines,” Rief said.

To help celebrate the launch of the Masturbation Advice Hotline, Arcwave kicked the party off early, unveiling VOY, the brand’s most portable male pleasure toy. According to the brand, the VOY, which looks eerily like a camera lens, targets the Merkel-Ranvier receptors in the skin of the penis, before stimulating them with its unique Tightness Adjustment System (TAS). The TAS can be activated by rotating the adjustment wheel behind the top lid, which increases or decreases the silicone’s tightness. Finally, science does something useful for a change.

For dudes, masturbation isn’t necessarily a dirty word, but it’s far from an everyday conversation starter and perhaps it should be. Australian sexologist Cam Fraser said that adding diversity to your masturbation routine is the key to generating different feelings in the body and enhancing orgasms, leading to more widespread benefits.

“There are so many benefits of masturbation,” Fraser said. “Not only can it boost your immune system, it can also help with relieving pain, and learning more about your body, boundaries, pleasure, turn-ons, and turn-offs. Having a robust understanding of these things by exploring them during masturbation can help you to communicate about them with a partner. It can also help with self-confidence, self-esteem, and body positivity.”

If you’re looking to have more open, positive, and fun conversations between you and your man-meat, you can check out the new Masturbation Advice Hotline for men by calling the number 02 8880 0463. The Arcwave VOY, on the other hand, is available now and priced at $149. Happy slapping!
