Get ready to be wowed, as Newcastle’s travel and dining scene welcomes QT Hotels & Resorts, with a new designer hotel opening in Newcastle’s East End. QT’s first regional hotel will boast a signature restaurant and rooftop bar, elevating Newcastle’s revitalised East End precinct and changing the city as you know it, forever.
The much-anticipated hotel will be housed within the heritage-listed 113-year-old former Scotts Limited and David Jones building on Hunter Mall, which speaks to how the hotel carefully combines modern design while nurturing Newcastle’s rich history, all the while celebrating the city’s stunning coastline and surrounds. For this profound achievement, we can thank the QT design team and long-time design collaborator, Nic Graham. Graham’s vision of designing with new beginnings and renewal at the forefront, whilst respecting and maintaining the raw shell and layering contemporary life within, has been brought to life with this unique building.
QT Hotels & Resorts Group General Manager, Callum Kennedy, says “QT Newcastle is the latest evolution in the QT collection, and we’re thrilled to open the doors. QT Newcastle will live and breathe the same vibrancy and energy guests love from the world of QT, championing luxurious quirk and exciting collaborations in the Newcastle community. Rooftop at QT, boasting uninterrupted views across the harbour and signature restaurant Jana, led by Michelin star chef Massimo Speroni, will deliver the ultimate night out for locals and travellers. We are also delighted to have recruited a team of local talent that we welcome to the QT family”.
What can you expect from QT Newcastle? Brace yourself to be amazed, with countless bold artworks at every corner, 104 guest rooms and suites featuring industrial textures alongside brushed brass accents and designer furnishings, endless natural light, uninterrupted harbour views and lavishly oversized bathtubs surrounded in emerald green finery. Guests are invited to experience a renewed sense of discovery upon every visit – the only question we have left is, when can we get a booking?
In terms of food and drink, signature restaurant Jana is nestled on the ground floor, offering an approachable, premium produce-led menu overseen by award-winning executive chef Massimo Speroni which offers an elevated twist on the modern Australian bar and grill. However, the main event is the Rooftop at QT, boasting panoramic views and an extensive cocktail list, local wines and a spirit collection featuring Newcastle’s largest library of Japanese Whisky.
“Newcastle is on the cusp of a new era of culture, undergoing rapid growth,” IRIS Capital’s chief executive officer Sam Arnaout said. “QT Newcastle will be the centrepiece of the new East End village, forming part of the city’s future as a place for cutting edge innovation, with the charm of a beachside regional town.”
QT Newcastle is perhaps one of the finest examples of how modern design can enrich a city’s nostalgic past and reflect its vibrant creative future. QT Newcastle, Jana Restaurant and Bar and Rooftop by QT opens June 9, 2022. For more information and to make a booking, visit the link below.
