ASICS SportStyle has teamed up with Australian fashion retailer Above The Clouds to release a new iteration of the GEL-SD-LYTE (AUD$300). With an intricate woven upper and rendered entirely in black and gunmetal, the design draws heavily on Japanese minimalism and traditional weaving techniques.

Launching first through Above The Clouds on Saturday, September 26, 2026, ahead of a wider global rollout at ASICS.com/AU and select global retailers, including KITH, Notre and Dover Street Market, on Saturday, 3 October. It’s one of the cleanest and most wearable silhouettes of the year. Positioned at the premium end of the current ASICS lineup, it sits alongside some of the brand’s recent technical drops, such as the ASICS SportStyle x C.P. Company GEL-QUANTUM 360, and premium leather offerings like the GEL-KINETIC SP. However, this specific release focuses entirely on structural texture.

The homies at Above The Clouds operate flagship spaces in Sydney and Melbourne, building a reputation for highly considered retail curation. This footwear project aligns with their architectural aesthetic, keeping the branding subtle and letting the woven textile serve as the primary focal point.

The GEL-SD-LYTE relies entirely on a complex woven technique for its primary panelling. The black and gunmetal threads integrate directly into the shoe’s physical structure alongside gunmetal snakeskin-print overlays and a breathable mesh tongue. It’s a highly technical approach to sneaker design that maintains a minimal silhouette.

For durability, a protective shell wraps directly around the toebox. Underfoot, ASICS pairs FLYTEFOAM™ PROPEL cushioning with a standard rubber outsole to deliver an energised feel for daily wear.
